Cheryl F.December 18, 2012Welcome to DC! If you ever get off the plane... Be prepared to taxi for a good bit before either taking off or landing. They never seem to have enough gates and/or runways for all the flights.
Drinks cost less inside the checkpoint than outside of it. Its worth the wait, and you get the added benefit of not having to hurry to drink it before the Tsa throw it away.
No one in DC, except the four or five Republicans who live there, calls it 'Reagan.' It's National.
First trip here since COVID closes everything. Airport is empty. Food court in SW terminal still open but little seating in restaurant due to social distancing.
As president, Ronald Reagan fired all the air traffic controllers, yet Congress named the airport after him, then forced DC to pay to change all the signs in the Metro to add Ronald Reagan to the name

Chris SheehyJuly 6, 2015Consider using the Metro to get from the airport to your hotel - it's super easy and cheaper than a cab in most cases.
In the parking garage? Nice day out? Skip the shuttle and take the walkway to Terminals B or C!

If you need a seat with a power outlet, the seat right next to Legal Seafood has two outlets to power up.
The United Staff are amazingly friendly... If you have an issue talk to Ms.C Franklin. She will get it resolved quickly an always with a smile .

There’s some construction going on at the entrance in Terminal A, and you have to take the escalators at the ends only to get to security. Feels like you’re leaving, but it’s down there!

I have never seen the security screening lines so long. Thankfully the TSA agents moved us along quickly and when the screener saw my CPAP in my carryon, she apologized to me for having to screen it.
Easy parking, you can take the metro directly to the airport, lots of clean bathrooms, easy to get on 395.
There is an underground walkway from parking lot A to all terminals!

A lot of construction going on here. Be prepared for a bigger and better airport. Hopefully when they are done, you no longer have to catch a bus to the flight line to get on your plane.

"TSA Pre-Check" @ Reagan National for active duty military is pretty much the best and only efficiency saved us 15-20min; shoes stay on, laptop stays in bag!
In the words of the immortal Will Smith, "I'm goin to Miami" well then driving to Boca...but I can still sing the song!!
You don’t have to be there extra early because the airport is small and you can get to your gate immediately after going through the TSA checkpoint.
The TSA Pre Check line is sometimes longer than the regular line!
To have the fullest experience here, be sure that you're on a flight where every seat is booked and there are multiple crying babies.
Kim KobzaMarch 22, 2012For easy layovers take the yellow metro line one stop to Crystal City for choice of hotels. Crystal City Marriott is easy in and out.
The cell-phone lot is always maxed out. If you're coming from the north on the GW Parkway, wait at the Roaches Run parking lot instead. It's got more spaces and much better planespotting.
Smaller airport, quick security lines. Not much at terminals but major renovations underway so there are more restaurants coming soon! One of my fav airports.
For a pleasant view of the Washington Monument and Capital Building while at the airport walk outside Door 6 on the ticketing level to the railing of the north terrace/grassy area.
National airport is a short metro ride from DC, which makes it more awesome than Dulles or Thurgood Marshall airport.
Bring an empty water bottle. This hands-free bottle fountain is located across from Gate 26.

Ingrid HartmanMay 25, 2013If you are flying JetBlue, budget in an extra 10 min for the super long walk out to Terminal A (or walking back to the metro after you arrive). And come on people, take the metro!
Skip the cab line with the @TaxiMagic app. Schedule a pickup at Terminals B or C and wait for your cab at the outer road at passenger pickup. You can watch your driver arriving.
Beautiful airport. Easy access to downtown DC and the airport via Metro transit trains.
If you're flying into DCA at night be sure to sit at a window got a beautiful birds eye view of the night lights of the Nation's Capital!
Just a heads up if u r taking the train and only there for the day break down and get the day pass its 14 bucks and worth it
Ryan DormanJune 23, 2010The absolute best view of DC is the southbound visual river approach. Hard to know if you'll be landing that way but keep and eye on the landing. lived here for several years and its still great
Be careful if you book a connecting flight through here, you need to give yourself extra time since sometimes the connections between gates are delayed by shuttle.
Lots of construction going on right now, so where you went last time might be different the next time. Watch for signs.
Rory GaganNovember 21, 2013This airport is far superior to Dulles. Friendly staff all around and free Wifi. Cheap, quick, and easy Metro ride to the city.
If you happen to have some time, check out the incredible viewing area outside of Terminal A, in the old building. It's amazing. It's outside of security.
Not a lot of charging areas but easy to navigate once you’re past the checkpoint. Getting to the terminals can be a challenge if you are not familiar with the layout. Wear comfortable shoes.
Escalator for Metro access by Baggage Claim 10. But pls, if you are a visitor, don't try to wrangle your luggage on Metro during rush hour, AM or PM. Use it during off peak hours.
Not a lot of great food selections but you can grab a drink.
