Don't wait until the holiday weekend (or summer fridays) to buy your ticket! Stop by a day or two before and you'll avoid the long lines.
Historic. Bring your camera and shoot the ceiling. Great for die hard history buffs. FDR used to have a personal railroad under the station.

The secret to not running into people is to never make eye contact. Look slightly above the tips of their heads and walk w/ determination. They'll part like the Red Sea!
Of you're planning to see the vintage rail cars - plan a nice long wait. The single most poorly organised event - a line snaking trough the Main Concourse, not one person to ask a question..

Try to get out of work early in the summer - it gets mobbed by tourists and folks going out to the country/suburbs.
The hidden bar behind the pizza counter back of lower level. Ask for a2go.
Sucks to commute but if you gotta do it, Beer Table opposite Track 13 makes it easier- great Craft Beers

If you walk through the mid section there are stairs that lead to an awesome rooftop also open to the public. So peaceful up here.
