If you go for the porterhouse (for 2) order it one grade less cooked than you would otherwise; the filet side will be a little rawer than that, but the much larger t-bone side will come out just right
For less than the price of the famous mutton (mutton!), treat yourself to the chopped salad, three slabs of thick cut bacon and a glass of Bruichladdich 10yr. Dinner of champions.
This place has an amazing mutton chop that distinguishes it from most classic steakhouses. The atmosphere can be hit or miss depending on which of the many rooms you're in. One of my faves.
The pipe collection here is a really neat touch to the old leather feel of the restaurant. It def. has a boys club vibe. The service is great & the food is even better, the berry bibble was my fav.
Historic place - ask about the pipes on the wall. Has become a bit pricey but great place for a business lunch. Our servers were attentive and sensitive to needs if our table.
Dinner for four? Get two orders of bacon, a porterhouse for two, mutton chop, burger with cheddar, mashed potatoes, and creamed spinach. Scientific proportions made to make the entire table happy.
Steaks and lamb chops....my mouth is watering now...Plus History of this establishment, will want you to explore the walls and ceilings. It was a smoke house in the 1790's.
Some of the best filet mignon I've ever had. Porterhouse for 3 was great for sharing and delicious. Really loved the creamed spinach and mashed potatoes!
This was once the home of The Lambs, America's first professional theatrical club established in 1874. The 2nd floor is called The Lambs room. www.The-Lambs.org
When in doubt or just wanting a 'snack' I highly recommend the Steak Salad. Flavorful, Med - wellskirt steak & the salad was butter lettuce that I could have eaten more of. Delish!!
Excellently done steaks. Skip the famous mutton chop if you haven't the appetite of a horse, and order creamed spinach. Don't be afraid to spend here, it's worth every cent.
For a meal you won’t soon forget, chow down on a charred T-Bone Steak or a King Cut Prime Rib accompanied by a side of Sautéed Mushroom and Hand-Cut Fries
Ambiance of old world, gentleman's parlor. Love the pipe collection displayed on the ceiling. Lively place, very testosterone charged but equally welcoming for a solo female diner. Wonderful service
When I go with people who never been to this amazing place, I don't mind ordering mutton chop so people can taste even tho they are not a fan. Order old fashioned or manhattan instead of red wine.
Great food, fabulous service. The bartenders are all excellent, but Albert is without a doubt the most consummate mixologist I've ever seen - anywhere. Complimentaryribs on Wednesday nights at 5PM.
The mutton chop is a must at Keens. It's the only restaurant in the city to serve its kind. There are absolutely no questions to be asked for the restaurant service and quality.
The best, period! Ask from your waiter to give you a shorttour within the restaurant. Learn about the pipe tradition, check out the gun that shot Lincoln, take a look at Roosevelt room.
The granddaddy of all NYC steakhouses, this 1885 Midtown temple to meat remains solid although I had better. Negatives: crowded, and the service was average (the waiter doubled his tip on the bill.)
Chef Bill Rodgers and his staff patrol the meat market with a copper stamp, branding with edible ink only the most pristine cuts of USDA prime protein. Read more
Great spot. Opened in 1878. Was also a smoking lounge til 1970. Over 90k clay smoking pipes on the ceiling Main hang out for actor & playwrights. Show up early and grab a drink at the bar. Perfect
Try their legendary mutton chop. It's bigger than your face and will lull you into a meat coma. The churchwarden pipe collection is less meaty but equally impressive.
Nice Porterhouse. Don't hesitate taking the Riesling 2009 of Hermann J. Wiemer : very well balanced with freshness and light sweetness. Lemon and rose aromas. A fine wine, a good value for price.
