Parlour upstairs opens at 5pm...if you don't ask for it, they'll shuffle you into the ground floor taproom. Not bad option, but different experience. You'll get a buzzer to wait for the parlor anyway
Upstairs is the #1 bar in the country and now I know why. They use the highest quality ingredients and have a book full of cocktails. Lord of the Ward was delicious.
A worthwhile establishment indeed. Oyster happy hour 5-7pm and many other joys. Named after the1850s eponymous mascot and in turn gang http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dead_Rabbits (at The Dead Rabbit)

All three floors have a similar vibe but they do tend to force some exclusivity at times, which is pretentious...but also sets the mood that they want, so it's fair.
Enter a time warp, this 19th Century Irish tavern, makes BarChick wanna rock out to Drop Kick Murphy’s http://barchick.com/find-a-bar/new-york/dead-rabbit-grocery-and-grog
Ask Daniel at the bar - take his recommendation. Everything is good. Upstairs the cocktails are pretty adventurous - be prepared for some interesting flavors
They should review by floor. 1st fl: crowded, standard bar feel with draft beers. 2nd fl: the bar that won the #1 bar in the world. 3rd fl: breathing room, small cocktail menu, good service.
Despite the 'Fighting Irish' no longer being on the menu they are more than willing to make. After two of those with a plate of French Fries in Truffle oil I found myself in 7th heaven 😇
Totally gone downhill. Don't know who they paid off to get best bar in the world. With buzzer that tells you when they are ready for you reminds me of red lobster of speakeasies.
Staff is lovely, decor is terrifically turn-of-the-century NY and the cocktails are delicious. This place is much needed in the vast desert of mediocre bars/restaurants in FiDi.
Let the graciousness and the expertise of your hosts ... among the best bartenders in New York as well as the entire English speaking world ... be your guide to the widening of your cocktail palate.
Damn good cocktailsupstairs. Order a drink that comes in an antique porcelain cup (with built-in mustache guard) and feel transported to old Mannahatta.
