- The Uber/Lyft pickup area is in the parking lot, not the general pickup/drop-off area. Cross over the bus/shuttle lanes.
- AnthonyNovember 23, 2011Most, if not all, rental car companies are off site. Allow extra time if renting a car to take a shuttle. The airport is pretty small and it's very close to downtown.
- Don't ask the stewardess how many drink tickets you can use at once; it usually results in you getting none. ;-)
- TSA lines moved fast this morning. I don't get the tablet with the "tsa randomizer" app which tells you which line to go into. Seems like government overspending.
- The rental car shuttle waiting areas are a mess. No signs to alert which part of curb a particular company will park. So even if you were waiting the longest you may not get a place on shuttle #1.
- Every other Friday San Diego International Airport has live jazz/soul music in Terminal 2.
- Do not book flights on Southwest going to Kansas City where SAN is where you have to change planes. You may have to change terminals and go through security again.
- JetBlue speed pass (extra leg room) means you get to go through the first class line at security. Use it.
- Hope you don’t have to transfer. Three pods of gates, each separate TSA. So drink that water fast
- Baggage Claim will take a while... So just be prepared for the wait, run to the restroom or grab a drink
- Long term parking and shuttle off of Pacific Highway is fantastic.
- Lars PlougmannSeptember 15, 2013Departing with Southwest? Food options in the small terminal are limited. A freshly toasted $8 bagel is a viable alternative to a pre-made $9 sandwich.
- If there's a ridiculously long security line for Terminal 2 gates 35-41, walk to the security checkpoint on the east side of the terminal. It is almost always shorter.
- Hey tourist! Want to see the real San Diego? Go to lestats coffee shop and Chicano park! You won't regret it!
- Make sure to get a spot in the cell phone lot near the entrance - if you get to the end, getting back in is a big pain
- Liven up your wait and catch all the airport air traffic action live by listening to the SAN Tower at http://sandiegoatc.com
- Val HAugust 11, 2019Terminal one has separate security for every 10 gates. They’re not linked so plan ahead!
- Nice view here of the Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego. Those poor bastards. Semper Fi, devil pups...
- Don't count on getting a seat in Southwest Terminal 2. Remember gates 1 & 2 are separate.
- so much better than lax! not as crowded, lines are shorter, and i'm biased. one of the best views of downtown when landing!
- David SchwartzFebruary 28, 2019The Southwest terminal is small. But usually easy to get through security. Which is good since the terminal doesn’t offer many options.
- Nice new chairs, every single one with chargers now!
- If your on a connecting flight, always check the flight board for the current gate number. They sometimes change it last minute.
- Southwest terminals are limited and usually always crowded with not a lot of options for amenities. Could use an expansion.
- In the rush of the mornings, the security line for the Delta, US Air terminal is much shorter on the gates 20-41 side (by Virgin kiosks).
- Bathrooms got worse from last year.. now there is a 5" x 5" hole in the stall wall so you can make eye contact with the guy shitting next to you.
- Be aware that you may need to go through security again for some connecting flights, and I've seen some insane security lines here.
- Gregg RivasAugust 1, 2013Buy earphones, etc... before coming to the airport. Very limited selection for dining and most other things in SWA gates after the TSA check.
- Terminal 2 is exquisite and Terminal 1 is being remodeled with nice amenities. The free WiFi is below average though: difficult to log-in, slow speeds, and boots you after 30 min.
- Make sure you bring an extra battery for your smartphone as outlets are few!
- ℋumorousJune 7, 2012If you're leaving you are probably sad, if you're arriving... Enjoy the local beer and wear sunblock! ☺
- Lach TaylorOctober 3, 2013This facility is outdated, but at least I found electrical outlets near some seats at Gate 24. A few years ago, I sat on the floor with other travelers around the only outlet for 3 gates.
- T2 is going through a remodel. They mapped out the worst ways to do a remodel and pushed 'GO'. Security is long, Starbucks line is literally 30 people long. one food vendor for 27 gates.
- Make sure to verify your gate prior to TSA!
- M.Y. G.August 14, 2017The delta side is nice and spacious with many options for food. The southwest side is cramped and you can't hear any announcements and food is meh
- Paul Cordova IIIJanuary 2, 2017Much rather fly in and out of SAN rather than LAX. Much less busier. If you can, always fly out of SAN.
- Abigail EMay 12, 2011If the sign stating the parking lot is full, it is FULL! come early or if your picking someone up, pick them up curb side!
- AskAboutTravel.comMay 1, 2013Looking to get out of San Diego but you have limited cash in your wallet? We found a nifty tool over at @kayak that will show you how much it cost to fly away on a world map with the price to go there Read more
- The new expansions to the airport make traffic easier to get in and out.
- M MackApril 14, 2013The food selection is beyond horrible - do not wait to eat at the airport before your flight. You will only have a small deli and California Pizza Kitchen to choose from.
