Get something to eat before you pass security. The options at the gates are horrible and expensive.
Air Berlin is located in Terminal 1 and German Wings in Terminal 2.

Nice airport, but receiving your checked bags takes forever. Be prepared
You will need more time for the Security check on a Monday morning (even at the Fast Lane).

Don't buy Evian water from those "sandwich, wiener, snickers, chewing gum" places it's ridiculously expensive. Look for "Viva Con Agua" instead it's just half price

For fastest taxi, go upstairs to departures and grab a cab that just dropped others off.
For showers, ask at Arrivals information. €3.50 there, and bring your own soap!

Hamburg Airport was opened in January 1911, making it the oldest airport in the world still in operation. In November 2016 it was named after former senator of Hamburg and chancellor of Germany, Helmut Schmidt. It is the fifth-busiest airport in Germany with 17.3 million passengers in 2019.
