The denogginizer is a big, bold, imperial IPA. Hops, flavors & aromas of grapefruit, pine, & tropical fruit hit first, backed up w/ a big caramel, malt sweetness to balance out the intense hop character & bitterness. More balance than many imperial ipas on the market, denogginizer is accessible & very drinkable despite its big, bold flavors & staggering ABV. Drake's tells its fans to "hold on to their heads". It's good advice.

Roasty/toasty, slightly sweet, light-bodied, black beer.
Serpents Stout • the Lost Abbey • Big Stout • 11% • 60

This is one seriously thick beer. Serpent's stout is one of the biggest beers we make. It has aromas of dark cocoa & fresh brewed coffee. The taste is initially sweet, from the caramel malt, pausing w/ a roasted middle & fuller bodied smooth finish from the oats in the beer. Part of this beer was also barrel fermented in used bourbon barrels.

2010 Cellars 33 • Petite Sirah • Sonoma County • 15.2%
4.00 - 27.00
If you ever wondered what a petite sirah made by a pinot noir winemaker might taste like - here it is. A surprisingly approachable petite, you'll recognize the impenetrable purple color but after that, you'll notice the differences. A remarkably smooth entry to the palate for a youthful petite, this well-balanced wine shows the full bodied character & blueberry/blackberry flavors you'd expect w/ an easy, long-lasting finish that won't damage your tooth enamel.
2009 Calder • Charbono • Napa Valley • 13.1%
5.00 - 33.00
One of only a handful of charbonos produced in the world, this wine has bright fruit, supported by smooth tannins & vibrant acidity. Renowned for its soft richness & buoyant aromatics, charbono's immediate deliciousness belies its ability to age for decades. Descriptors include bright, vibrant cherry & huckleberry fruit, along w/ notes of woodspice, cinnamon, fresh herbs, & damp forest floor.
2009 Qupe • Grenache • Edna Valley • 14.5%
6.00 - 43.00
This wine is 87% grenache & 13% syrah from grapes grown at the sawyer lindquist vineyard in the cool edna valley. The grenache portion is 73% alban clone & 27% tablas clones. The syrah portion is from neutral barrels that were selected for our single vineyard syrah bottling. A little over half of the grenache was fermented w/ 33% whole clusters which adds a definite layer of spice & tannin & gives more complexity as the wine ages. All of the grenache was aged in neutral french oak, on the lees, for 17 months. The syrah was blended in to the wine just before bottling. This young vineyard is showing the tremendous potential for grenache & works well w/ the style of grenache i like to make, spicy w/ wild cherry & hints of fresh herbs frame the aromas. The flavors follow in the same vein w/ the savory fruit notes & balanced alcohol. It is difficult for me to predict ageability on this wine but i'm confident it will benefit from a good 8-10 years in the cellar. 24 barrels, just under 600 cases were bottled at the end of march 2011. i almost forgot to mention, in 2009 we certified the vineyard & winery under the demeter guidelines for biodynamic farming & winemaking & this `wine carries the demeter stamp.
2010 Halcon • Syrah • Mendocino - Yorkville Highlands • 13.7%
7.00 - 45.00
Opaque purple. Seductive aromas of dark berry preserves, dried flowers, licorice & smoky indian spices. Juicy, tightly focused blackcurrant & bitter cherry flavors are complicated by notes of cracked pepper & succulent herbs, w/ slow-building sweetness. Fine-grained tannins add grip to the very long, spicy, penetrating finish. A darkly colored, intensely flavored, low alcohol (13.7%) , higher acid (3.78ph, 0.61g/100ml ta) wine w/ the structure of the northern rhone combined w/ pure, clean california fruit.
2010 Frog's Leap • Zinfandel • Napa Valley • 13.8%
7.00 - 45.00
This zinfandel hits the mark right away w/ the cinnamon & nutmeg aromas mixed w/ the classic zinfandel qualities of wild berry & brambly fruits. Across the palate the wine continues to reveal layers of fruit & earth that range from cherry & raspberry to cigar box & cedar. The tannins are resolved & the texture is plush allowing for a zin that is both rich & quaffable.
2009 Jack Brooks • Cabernet Sauvignon • Napa Valley • 14.4%
17.00 - 111.00
Our 2009 jbv is a delicious, food friendly 100% calistoga (ava) cabernet fashioned in a distinctly handmade style & is clearly our best vintage yet. The wine was vinified from 100% estate-grown napa valley fruit in 66% new french oak barrels. In the glass, the wine is a beautiful inky purple w/ light scarlet rim. The'09 is precocious & absolutely delicious now w/ subtle aromas of fresh berry fruits & especially rich & deep sweet cherry notes. On the palate are delicate touches of spice, cedar & chocolate, seamlessly integrated w/ soft mouthfilling tannins that produce plenty of structure & potential. This wine is very drinkable now but will cellar for 5-10 years...if you can resist drinking it today.
