A wonderful place to spend the day or evening for that matter! Bring a picnic lunch/dinner and $15 for parking. Don't want to bring food, dining options are great too. An amazing place.
Park early then walk the 3/4mi up alongside the tram to grab a coffee atop your own private hilltop retreat. Then take the 11am Collection Highlights tour.
Both of the Getty Museums are amazing... It has been a while since I was there.. but it is a good place to visit and you dont need to have a lot of money to do so.
Visit Van Gogh's "Irises" on the top floor of the West Pavilion. The free audio tour that you get in the main building is def worth listening to. Do the tour of the Getty Grounds too.
Take advantage of all the beautiful, natural light at the Getty. From the views, the art, the architecture, and the gardens - there is so much to shoot, any time of day.
The Getty museum itself is one of the most innovative and contemporary buildings, I have ever seen. The art works consisted of ancient European art and medieval tapestries. which surprised me
Instead of purchasing an audio tour you can use Google Goggles on your smart phone and take a picture of any piece of art to hear the history of it. It works great... Don't forget your earpiece!!
be prepared to do a lot of walking so that you can feast your eyes on the multitude of art, everywhere you look. the buildings themselves, are a work of art in themselves.
The outdoor gardens and the views are fantastic, but do spend time with the amazing indoor offerings: incredible European art, from Van Gogh to Titian.
via LA Mag: Comp umbrella use, free coat check, orientation theater, free headphone guide, and loaner pencils & clipboards. Their human chain of docents is eager to answer any question. Class act!
question.. has anyone else been able to "check-in" and get the 20% off in getty store online offered here on foursquare? I'm getting tired of trying....
The location is spectacular, and the gardens are amazing. Plan to spend several hours here soaking up the scenery. Your experience will be enhanced if it's a sunny day!
These two exhibits are worth experiencing before they close on 2.5.12: Crosscurrents in L.A. Painting and Sculpture 1950-1970 & Greetings from L.A.: Artists and Publics 1945-1980.
