Tourists! Chicago is a public transit city! Try out the orange line to downtown, avoid the hassle of driving in Chicago and paying 100$ a night to park in the loop
Instead of the cell phone lot, use the short-term parking which leaves you just steps from the arrivals and meet your party in person as they get in. It's only $2 for a half hour of $4 for one hour.
You can bring your empty water bottle through TSA; there are several filtered water stands throughout the terminals to fill it up before you board. #Hydrate
Daune RobinsonOctober 18, 2013Taxi fare will cost about $30 on way to a downtown hotel. If you have a little time, you can get a $25 ticket on Airport Express shuttle ($48 round trip).
This is actually a pretty busy airport. If u have time to kill. Stop by Harry Carey Bar and have a beer. That's the spot to be.
The best airline #Southwest flies outta here which makes Midway our #1 option
TSA must have a roulette wheel wheel they spin to determine how the security checkpoints are going to be laid out that day. I travel on average once a month and the variance is significant.

Be sure to use the moving sidewalks to get between gates faster. Remember, walk on the left, stand on the right!
You have to grab a Chicago Style Hot Dog from Gold Coast Dogs. The BEST hot dog you will ever have.

The "no carry-on bag" express security line is only worth it if there's an open security lane dedicated to it. If it all directs to all lanes, just pick the shortest line.
Take a seat in Concourse C by Hudson News to eavesdrop on the latest airport gossip/drama. Cash register ladies like to talk LOUD!
In the B terminal (southwest) there is a great salad made fresh place called springs. Great salad esp for airport food. An yea ij, coffee is terrible.

John MorrisonNovember 23, 2011The "expert" line is a facade. Everyone goes right thinking it will be shorter which leads to congestion AND it has the slower AIT machine. Go left to beat the wait and hit the X-Rays instead.
Baggage claim sucks here and is the only problem I see with this airport. Even though bags are free with Southwest, if you are in a hurry, carry it on!

Security was quick. Instructions were clear at southwest as always.
Frank HattulaOctober 18, 2011You can't bring bottled water with you through TSA; however you CAN bring an empty water bottle. Pack one in your carry-on so that you can fill it up at the water fountain before you board.
Best view sitting on right sude of plane coming from the East!
SaraMay 15, 2014Free WiFi :) There are typically outlets to charge electronics but they're typically taken. As always, give yourself 40-60 min of flex time to accommodate for lines etc.

Michelle BNovember 5, 2010Need to power up? If on Concourse A, head to the Traveler Center just past McD's. There is an outlet conveniently next to one of the phone booth stations. Makes the perfect desktop for working :)
This isn't a good airport for food or drinks. Come with just enough time to catch your flight and get out.

Busy spot. Only 9.2 miles from downtown Chicago. Just a short ride on the Orange Line "L" Train
Illinois Bar and Grill is MDW's best kept secret. Breakfast is AMAZING and the burgers only get better. Also serve beer earlier than most here. :-)
Check out the yoga room near the C gates and get your Ohm on before a flight
Long walks to the gates over 10. TSA precheck closes at about 8 so you get forced into taking off shoes, belt etc.

Love the convenience of Midway. Less hassle and easy to get to via CTA.
The slider place by B19 requires a 20 min wait as they cook to order and you can't mix and match. A sign stating these things would be helpful.

The best thing about Midway was great access to the rental cars. Not anymore, they moved them off site and what once took 5 minutes now takes 45. But they're glad you're here. Fail Midway Fail.
If you are at midway, i would recommend the airplanes. They are very large and will get you to your destination quickly.
Terminal B, the Taylor Street Market is a decent, healthy-ish option in a sea of fast food.
