It was a blast! So much to see. The way of exhibiting was more then thoughtfully and the architecture cohere with it perfectly. One of the best museum in portugal. Worth all your time and money.
You may have seen most of it before. The paintings, wood carvings, jewelery, sculptures & the ruins. But the way it all is put toghether and presented to the audienc is UNIQUE. A fantastic experience.
All around great presentation of all exposition materials, but absolutely excellent on medieval sculpture/architecture. One of the best museums in the country, in my opinion.
There're also some Roman remains and a few sculptures underneath, so you get even more bang for your buck. Admission is only 6€ and the collection is pretty big. There's some oriental objects too.
Excellent collection of Portuguese art with a focus on sculpture but also painting, previous metals, earthenware etc. Collection is mainly from the 11th century to the 17th century.
Quite a bit of stuff imported (mainly from Flanders), and is supposedly 'nativised' - I'm not sure what's wrong with embracing it as Flemish in its own right but anyway it's still excellent art.
