    この坂上の高台は徳川幕府の老中職をつとめた 旧関宿藩主･久世大和守 の下屋敷のあったところで土地の人は「久世山」と呼んで今もなじんでいる。 この久世山も 明治以降 住宅地となり 堀口大学、その尊父 長城堀口九万一 も居住した。そして近くに住む詩人の三好達治，佐藤春夫などによって山城の久世の鷺坂と結びつけた「鷺坂」という坂名がごく自然な響をもって世人に受けいれられてきた。(坂の標識より抜粋)
