Union Station is a must see while you are in KC, it is beautiful. There are several museums/displays great for kids & adults, a movie theater, and restaurants. It is also a functioning train station.
There's this great resteraunt there, I recall. If you sit at the bar, they have happy hour (drinks AND food) all day. Plus their prices are really cheep, especially for gourmet-calliber food.
Check out the science center here - worth it!! I'd like to thank a volunteer named Harold, he was so sweet & attentive! Gave us a map & tons of tips for stuff to do! Thanks & hats off to you! :)
Restored in the 1990s, this train station is filled with restaurants, stores, rotating exhibits and theaters. You can easily spend the entire day staring at the beautiful architecture.
I met my husband of going on 10 years at Union Station of KC. There are so many things to do from kid friendly to adult night life. Something for everyone! Fun place, extraordinary architecture. Go!
The Science Center is a great place for children. Even the bigger (adult) ones will find some interesting things to do there. Places to eat inside, bathrooms on all three levels.

Good place to kill a little time and on the light rail system. Has a toytrainexhibit and a small science center for kids. A few cafes and nice restrooms.
It's still a working train station with a lot of rotating exhibits, Science City, restaurants and the city's largest cinema screen. It was the site of a shootout between officers and mobsters in 1933.
I like the titanic exhibit because they had lots of infirmation about the titanic and it was really cool to see all the clothing they wore back then and how they lived on the boat!!
Next to the entrance to science city is a door to the freight house bridge. You can walk across the bridge over the traintracks and watch the trains underneath!

We had soooo much fun standing on the bridge and watching the freight trains go by underneath. If you have a 6 year old boy, do your self a favor and do it.
There is a giant atrium here with doors leading (ostensibly) to the platforms, and then you go board in a dinky corner of the building. This is a shame. Boarding a train used to be glamorous
The Fred Harvey Co. was headquartered in the downtown rail station. The Grand Hall, with a 95-foot ceiling and 3,500-pound chandeliers, has been beautifully restored. Read more
