1. General “good luck” follows our members. If you have ever asked yourself, “Why does that guy get all of the breaks?” He is probably a Turner Member.
2. Turner members receive discounts on food and drinks in the Rathskeller. Turner members are also more likely to charm their way into discounts and privileges in the banquet facility.

Weekend Favorites: Anniversary Turnverien and Frauenverein publication.
“I started going to Professor Hein’s gym classes with my best friend, Lena Oetting, in about 1915, when we were 12. I had a crush on a boy in an older class, and I chased him around Turner Hall for years. I finally caught him. That was my husband Frank. Lena was my bridesmaid.” Laura Oswald Niemann
“I’ve played many a card game in the Turner clubroom. My favorite game was skat. I joined the Turnverein in 1913 when I was 18 years old.No woman would have ever come into the bar in those days, not even a loose one.” Dr. Kurt Bell
For many generations there were four distinct groups in New Ulm: Catholics, Lutherans, other Protestants (Methodists, Episcopalians, Congregationalists, and Friedens), and Turners. The fact that many of the Turners were agnostics resulted in some antagonism. This anti-Turner feeling reached its peak in the late 1890’s when the Turners were voted off the school board.
“When I was growing up in New Ulm, and even when I was a young man, there seemed to be an undercurrent of animosity toward the Turners that never really surfaced. It’s very delicate and a little hard to explain. I don’t think those feelings exist today.” Dr. Ted Fritsche KEMSKE, New Ulm, MN
