- XDecember 6, 2012Find a quieter spot between the front & back bars. Free Wi-Fi's solid, too. The wifi name is "OPD" & the password is "drinkbeer". There are also some outlets back here, nice spot to work late & drink.
- John CatolineJanuary 11, 2015If there is a king and castle for craft beers, The Trappist would hold this position. Beer is taken seriously here and it is some of the best anywhere. Try the small batches from independent Brewers.
- The beer menu is damn near hard to beat... and that's before you move from the draft list to bottles! Great music, great guests, outstanding barkeeps
- Jasmine GarnerApril 24, 2013Personally, I am not a huge beer fan so I decided to try a flight. The bartenders where nice and helpful and really tailored their suggestions to what I told them I liked. It was nice and fun!
- Patrick Finley (@pjfinley)December 24, 2014My go-to in Oakland. There's a front bar and back bar. The beers I've tried are all phenomenal. Also, try a sour beer, you won't be disappointed.
- Alex DobyanDecember 17, 2017Excellent beer list and patio, lots of Belgians you might not find on tap elsewhere with both old standbys and unconventional pours.
- Adrian PhillipsNovember 9, 2015Extensive selection of Belgian beers on tap. Back bar has a different selection than the front bar. The deviled eggs, picked and braised beef sandwich are great stomach fillers.
- Serious EatsFebruary 20, 2014This place is all about respect for beer, offering an opportunity to explore Scandinavian, Dutch, and Belgian styles along with local options.
- Really love the atmosphere and crowd here. If you're solo hang out in the main bar, or grab a table in the back bar. Specializes in Belgian and Belgian-style beer, with occasional craft brews.
- Daniel PetersenAugust 7, 2012All the Belgian beer you could want, not to mention a pretty nice bottled menu. The classics haven't tasted as good (kinda warm or flat), but its still Belgian beer. It's a win for the environment.
- Dave WhelanJuly 19, 2014I do so like Green Eggs & Eggs. And I would eat them with a beer. And I would eat them with Jerry Brown. But he's in Sacramento.
- Kirke CurtisFebruary 3, 2014Like Beer Revolution only more focused on the beer side (but still with LOTS of cool beers to try) and with decent food and much nicer decor. I'll be back.
- Erik MoeFebruary 6, 2015Great selection. Can get really crowded and they know enough not to rush good beer, so if you're looking for a relaxed pint you might try another spot nearby.
- Yeah, yeah, yeah, there's delicious Belgian beer. What you may not know is that The Trappist the best pastrami sandwich in Oakland, probably in the Bay Area!
- Dave SteffensSeptember 13, 2013This place is awesome. Not much on bar friendliness as they are swaped pouring. But it has two sides with ample seating and great beers.
- FlavorpillSeptember 5, 2014Sour/Bitter Fest- Oakland's best bites paired with tart and sour foamy delights at The Trappist. Sat, 9/6, 2-5pm, $62. Read more
- Michaela MoralesJuly 7, 2013I'm not a beer drinker but my three friends loved it. They did serve wine. YAY! The guys there knew their stuff. It was very interesting. Great place!!
- Gotta get here before 11pm for the kitchen to be open! The grilled cheese with apple and Brussels sprouts is not to be missed!
- Always a solid beer list, always a little pricy. So it goes with outstanding imports. Solid food menu and very BARTable.
- A Belgian Specialty beer bar and gastropub in Old Oakland featuring 25 taps, over 150 bottles, and a proper glass for each and every beer. Try a Belgian beer and the Charcuterie plate.
- Tremendous selection of belgian & sours. Snacks (charcuterie, etc) most days. Often do BBQ, dogs, etc on Saturday afternoons.
- Nice selection but I stopped going due to their Euro-pours. Every beer comes w/ 1"+ of foam, yet you're paying a premium for all 8-10 oz.
- Do not get the grilled cheese unless you like a heavy bechamel cheese with Dijon and chives. For me it was a bit too much. Get the sausage or pulled pork - the best. Do sit outside!
- If the back bar is closed, you can still buy the beers from its menu and have them delivered to your seat.
- Brian NewtonAugust 27, 2015Often busy and can be a bit loud, but an excellent selection of beers and a neat rustic vibe.
- Jeanine ShimatsuJanuary 25, 2014Good food, good drink. Patio is rad when it's nice out. They always have a couple good sours on tap.
- David TaylorApril 22, 2015Sit in the back and alternate between "front" and "back" bar menus. Great sour beers on both.
- Emily RoseSeptember 15, 2014St. Bernardis is the bees knees. Good any time of the year. Outdoor seating is favored, inside is pretty dark and noisy.
- BetsyMOctober 28, 2013Blah blah beer blah blah. Let's talk about cheese instead. On a scale of 1 to 10, my love of cheese is insane. This place met all my cheese needs and definitely more.
- Honoree McGrawMarch 11, 2013Great atmosphere and reasonable prices for Belgian beer. De Struise Cuvée Delphine is scrumptous!!
- Brandon ValentineNovember 12, 2013Solid tunes. In 10 minutes here I've heard The Eels and White Stripes. Feels like I stepped into the early aughts.
- Try the Mikkeller Big Worse Red Wine - Mikkeller's Big Worse Barley Wine aged in red wine barrels. 12% ABV.
- Potent beer, potent prices. Be adventurous and your taste buds will be forever thankful.
- Tom SJune 13, 2010One of the best places in the Bay to sample wares from the emerging (in the US) sour beer movement. Try the Russian River Consecration.
- Greg SchechterAugust 17, 2014Great beer selection. Good for groups. Food's good but a bit limited and pricy.
