Great place to study or read. They don't pressure you to make a purchase in order for you to stay. Food is ehhh.... I like the small portioned kids menu. Coffee is quite strong.
Friendliest baristas/baristos(?) in the East Village. They never complain, even if you pay all in quarters. Oh, and can't beat the everyday $3 coffee+bagel deal.
Come for the Irving Farm iced coffee (w/ iced coffee cubes), stay for the Fleetwood Mac on the stereo. Bring a book—it's hard to find an outlet for your comp.

Surprisingly calm considering it's location. Don't let the counter fool you—seat yourself for table service, and pick a table in the back, shielded from the hubbub of the street.
