A very rare one-time Green Flash/Barley's Angels collaboration beer Treasure Chest, a Saison aged in red wine barrels with Brettanomyces and plums - will be released to raise money for breast cancer research. This breast cancer charity fundraiser was started by the co-founder of Green Flash Brewing Company, who is also a breast cancer survivor. No Hops Gruit Ale Contest
4:00pm - 6:00pm Sun Oct 19th, The Third Annual No Hops Gruit Ale Contest invites all brewersprofessionals and homebrewersto a challenge of the ancient craft of brewing. We look to celebrate the secrets of old recipes while exploring new ways to exploit traditional botanicals in enhancing the flavor of and preserving beer. This is a free event but as always fabulous things will be available to eat and drink at Liam Flynn's, Rules: Ingredients & Style - *Target style is the historic "Gruit Ale" which isnot a BJCP category. For reference, this beer would qualify as category 23 under BJCP. *At least 50% malted grains. Meads are excluded. Braggots, for example, would not be if ingredients include at least 50% malted grains. *Zero hops permitted. The point of the competition is to experiment with botanicals (herbs, spices,etc) other than hops. Submission: *Submission must be at least 64 OZ of beer. *Submissions must be accompanied by a complete list of ingredients. *All submissions must be delivered to Liam Flynn's Ale House. *Submission must be labeled with name, phone number, and email address of competitor. Judging: *Hedonistic judging will be used. This is not a BJCP-sanctioned event. Judging will be conducted by a celebrity panel plus the over-21 attendees of the event.

Homebrew Contest to Benefit Barcs

Well It's That Time of Year Again Where the Tribes Will Gather in Patapsco State Park On June 7 to Celebrate the Summer and Great Summer Beers (Like Blood Orange Wit) .
We will have a wheat beer competition with cash prizes.
There Is No Charge for the Gathering But There Is a Small Fee to Enter the Park (I Think $2 Per Person) .

Wheat Beer Competition
American Wheat 6d, German Wheat 15a, 15b, 15c, or Belgian Wit 16a will be accepted. The Competition will be pseudo-hedonistic, you will need enough beer to fill one pitcher and you your entry will be judged by a few members of the picnic (4-5 volunteers will be selected). The entry fee is $2 per beer. You may enter as many beers as you would like. The top three wheat beers will win prize money.

3.5" high, diameter is 7.5" at the top, tapering to a 7" closed bottom, which allows for stacking of multiple molds. Also includes a follower for more serious pressing. Will accommodate a 4-5 lb cheese. This mold is ideal for Blue, Tomme, or Trappist/StPaulin style. This is a tapered mold designed for a max pressing weight of 8-12 lbs. The top is wider so several molds can be stacked on top of each other for pressing. Turning the cheese several times with no weight towards the end of the molding stage evens out the top and bottom diameters so it ends up with a nice little bulge in the side. The follower does not go all the way to the bottom so I usually store these with the follower upside down in the mold which makes it easy to stack them on top of each other.

Cheese Wax is especially made for coating cheeses. It helps prevent unwanted mold growth while retaining moisture in the aging cheese. This wax is pliable and will not become brittle as will pure paraffin wax. CONTAINS: A formulation of paraffin and microcrystalline wax, food grade coloring YIELD: One pound will wax approximately 12-20 cheeses when brushed on. If dipping method is used you will need at least a 5 pound block. If you are waxing all the time, 10 pounds will save you some money. We also offer a box of 60 pounds that is unwrapped and in bulk form. DIRECTIONS: It is safest to melt wax in a double boiler so that it is not subject to direct flame. Never leave melting wax unattended. Wax can explode at high temperatures. Heat wax to 120oF. Wax can be brushed onto a dried and chilled cheese with a natural bristle brush (anything synthetic will melt) , or you can very carefully dip your cheese into the wax pot one side at a time (it can get very slippery) . Two thin coats are preferable to one thick coat. Be sure to fill up any air spaces as mold needs air to grow. When you are ready to eat your cheese, the wax is simply peeled off and can be strained through Butter Muslin (U2) to be reused over and over again. STORAGE: Store in cool place, away from any high heat. Will keep indefinitely.

DESCRIPTION: 9"x9" Bamboo Reed Mat TO CLEAN: Rinse well with cold water after use, then wash with hot water and a neutral alkaline cleanser or dairy wash. We do not recommend using commercial detergents for this product. If mat is really hard to clean you can soak in the dairy wash before giving it a good scrub. If mat still retains an odor after a good cleaning, try hanging outdoors in the sun for awhile, this is the traditional method used in Europe!

Knowing that pressure is key to making consistently fine cheeses, bricks and water buckets just are not reliable enough. Too much pressure and the cheese is too hard and dry. Not enough pressure and the cheese is too soft and subject to spoilage. It was quickly learned that wood products have no place in a cheese press. They absorb water, warp, expand and are impossible to keep sanitary. This press is all plastic and stainless. A problem with some presses is that cheese tends to ooze out the bottom of the hoop when applying pressure on presses that have no means of clamping the hoop down. This cheese press allows the hoop to be securely clamped down before pressure is applied. The cheese slides easily from one end to the other when flipping the hoop and follower.

In red smear cheeses it helps neutralize the surface of the cheese and stimulates the development of desired, acid-sensitive flora such as P.candidum. The Shirron wort plate chiller is a highly-efficient, compact plate-type wort chiller! Made with 11 stainless steel plates that have been fused together with copper solder, these chillers have small channels weaving their way up and down each plate. This creates more surface area for the wort to travel over, and more time for the water to cool the wort down. The small, compact design allows for any easy integration into any brewing setup, and takes up less space than any other chiller on the market. Cleaning a plate chiller is a bit more involved than a normal immersion chiller, due to the tiny pockets created by the channels in the plates. These pockets can harbor cold break material, hop remains, or any other solid, and if not removed can cause infection in subsequent batches. The best way to clean is to recirculate a solution of hot water and PBW through the chiller as normal, then backflush the chiller, bringing the PBW through the "Wort Out" side in out through the "Wort In" side. This should remove any particulate that may have gotten trapped by the folds in the plates. Since this type of chiller is relatively new to the homebrewing market, we are unsure just how much solid matter can be trapped in the plates over time, and if a thorough cleaning can break any of the solids free from the corners or not. 12.5" long, 3" wide, and 2" thick. The wort inlet and outlet is 1/2 Inch Male Pipe Thread, and the water in and out is 3/4 Inch Male Garden Hose Thread.
