There has been a lot of press lately on Brazilian Blowouts–specifically around whether or not they are safe, how long they last, if they are good for your hair…here are some questions and answers to clear up the myths so you can continue on your path to looking and feeling gorgeous!

What Is a Brazilian Blowout?

Lavish Hair and Makeup Studio is proud to use the original and official Brazilian Blowout Pro Solution, which is a smoothing treatment, not a straightening treatment. The solution uses a Brazilian Super Nutrient Complex and proprietary polymer system, which improves the condition of your hair by creating a protective protein layer around the hair shaft to eliminate frizz and smooth the cuticle.

Will My Hair Be Totally Straight Every Time I Wash It?

No, it will not be totally straight. Someone with extremely curly hair will experience a more relaxed wave or looser curl; a person with naturally straight hair will experience smoother hair with less frizz (depending on hair type) . In other words, a Brazilian Blowout will not leave you with completely straightened hair, but with shinier and smoother hair (with much of the curl or wave removed) . Straightening or flat ironing your hair takes minutes after the treatment (if at all necessary) .

What Type of Products Do I Need to Use to Maintain My Brazilian Blowout?

There are products available at Lavish Hair and Makeup Studio that we recommended to maintain the longevity of your treatment.

How Long Does It Take to Get a Brazilian Blowout?

The appointment time depends on the length and texture of your hair, but typically it’s from 90 minutes to two hours.

Can I Wash My Hair Before the Procedure? What About Afterwards?

You are welcome to wash your hair before or after the treatment immediately, but, if you’d like, we recommend enjoying your new hair for a few days after receiving a Brazilian Blowout.

I Heard That There Are Some Issues Around the Fda and Formaldehyde in Brazilian Blowout Treatments. Should I Be Worried?

There has been a lot of press around formaldehyde and the Brazilian Blowout. We’re happy to report that Oregon OSHA found that exposure to formaldehyde to stylists and clients from Brazilian Blowout products are well below OSHA’s Air Level Requirements. So, in a nutshell, OSHA has determined Brazilian Blowouts to be safe. And possibly fabulous!

How Long Will My Brazilian Blowout Last?

The smoothing treatment lasts 10 to 12 weeks. How often you wash your hair and the products you use can determine the sustainability of your Brazilian Blowout.
