Swedish massage methods were developed by per henrik ling in Sweden in the 1830s & practice uses a system of long gliding strokes, kneading, & friction techniques on the more superficial layers of muscles. Swedish massage goes in the direction of blood flow toward the heart because there is an emphasis on stimulating the circulation of the blood through the soft tissues of the body. Swedish can be a relatively vigorous form of massage, sometimes w/ a great deal of joint movement included.

Lomi lomi massage is a hawaiian massage, also known as the "loving hands" massage. The lomi-lomi name helps to explain its principles - the massage works gently yet deeply into the muscles w/ continuous, flowing strokes, allowing the recipient to relax & give in to the nurturing touch. The long, continuous strokes of the massage are designed to help the body let go of its old patterns & behaviours, which can cause as many stresses & strains as muscle tension. "Lomi lomi" translates to "rub rub" in hawaiian, & reflects the broad, flowing strokes made w/ the therapist's fingers, thumbs, palms, arms & elbows. Macadamia, palm & coconut oils are usually used as moisturisers in lomi lomi massage, to keep the strokes smooth & to nourish the skin.

Hot stone massage is a kind of massage that uses treated volcanic rocks such as basalt & basinite that are believed to promote relaxation as well as eliminating negative energy within the client's body, mind & soul.
