Staying at the LVH is good if you're going to the convention center everyday. But the hotel itself is kind of dingy, poor customer service and lacking in dining options. Stay at the Encore, it's close

If attending a convention, forget a taxi & call an Uber. It'll save you time and money! It's just they can't really stop so you kinda have to jump in quick while people yell but it makes it exciting.
