This corsican wine was last year’s most popular rosé. Made from four grape varieties, 35% sciaccarellu, 30% merlot, 25% grenache, and 10% cinsault, the major component, sciaccarellu, is a native grape variety of the island. It takes its name from a corsican adjective meaning, “crispy-crunchy between the teeth.” indeed, it does have a tough skin. Close in appearance to the pinot noir grape, the wine produced from this grape displays an aroma similar to pinot as well. Airy pale pink in color, very sophisticated. One of the best rosés i have found from spain, it is made entirely from tempranillo sourced from rioja. A delightful ripe strawberry aroma greets you. The 2011 vintage of this wine was selected as one of the top 100 wines of 2012 by the wine spectator. Such has been the snobbism over the years surrounding rosé wines; i thought i’d never see one get such a high accolade. Having carried the 2011 last year, selecting it months before the wine spectator picked it for their top 100, i can tell you the 2012 version of this wine is every bit as good as 2011.
