UFOPA was formed in 2010 by merging a number of separate institutions. While the Rondon campus may be 'lesser' compared to the Tapajos campus, it is nonetheless beautiful and very convenient to town.
Modern mall. Fashion shows on the weekend evenings. Food court. Cinema. Gated parking. Feels like you are visiting the USA... pricey, but AC is comfortable.
Tasty. Outdoor seating. Sushi rolls purchased by weight (approximately R$25 for a full sized roll). Shashimi as well (also purchased by weight). Wonderful outdoor seating, accepts MC/VISA/AMEX.
Tasty pizza, great staff, and you've got to check out the Alter do Chao 'card' for discounts at this and other establishments which are part of the AdC consortium.
Older hotel, undergoing modern renovation. Reasonable prices, tasty food, wonderful staff! Air conditioned rooms and a beautiful pool make this a must visit!
Today you can fly to Santarem on TAM or GOL. Driving... probably not going to make it quickly... but the most 'traditional' manner of travel is along the river, and the largest boats dock here!
International visitors can/should check in with the Federal Police to inform then that you are in town visiting. Depending upon your visa type this might be a requirement. In any case, its helpful!
Study among the trees! A beautiful indoor/outdoor campus that blends nature and learning seamlessly. Instruction is in Portuguese, so English speaking visitors be prepared!
Beautiful inside and out. The plaza in front bustles with commercial activity all week, and the sanctuary is filled for worship on Sunday.

If you haven't heard of Henry Ford's amazonian state (Ford land), then you MUST visit Belterra! A property the size of Maryland, USA, Belterra is the remains of an American industrial rubber colony.
