Daniel Sciberras: What a great jazz bar. Owner Kobayashi-san has more than 11,000 records here - chat to him, he is actually very friendly. This place is a music library, where added bonuses are whiskey and smoke.
Daniel Sciberras: Yuwaeru - an interesting little deli and 'health salon'. Good spot for some healthy lunch in a canteen style environment. Some tasty produce to buy for gifts too.
Daniel Sciberras: Ueno Sakuragi Atari - A great little spot in the quiet streets of Yanaka. Three in one: Yanaka Beer Hall (only open 12-5pm) (get the four beer taster), OshiOlive for oil and salt gifts, Kayaba Bakery.
Daniel Sciberras: Some top ramen in this local joint - expect something very meaty. The salt sauce was a favourite, order at the machine before (which is only in Japanese).
Daniel Sciberras: A fascinating street market, and lots of great stalls for street food. One of the busiest in Tokyo. For such a small area it is great fun!
Daniel Sciberras: Arrive for 8am to look around the 'outer market' with lots of stalls. At 9am they let tourists into the 'inner market' where the wholesale of fish goes on - it is much more interesting in this part.
