White Wines
24 Per Bottle
Our Chardonnay Grapes Are Planted On An Older, Reshaped Hillside With Both Eastern- And Western-facing Slope. The Vines On The Eastern Slope Receive Gentle Early Morning Sun While The Western Slope Receives The More Direct Afternoon Sun, Both Aspects Influencing The Flavor Development Differently In The Grapes. We Hand Harvest The Fruit And Ferment The Juice In One Of Our 630 Gallon Vertical French Oak Tanks, Which Are The First Of Their Kind In Michigan. By Fermenting In A Large Oak Tank We Achieve A Harmonious Blend Of Ripe Tropical Fruit Flavors Balanced With Delicate Oak Nuances, A Creamy Mouthfeel And Lengthy Finish To The Wine.
2010 Chardonnay Reserve
39 Per Bottle
There Is A Time And A Place For Oak. With The Warmth Of The 2010 Growing Season A Small Block Of Our Chardonnay Vines Were Left To Hang A Little Longer Which Provided Fuller Ripeness Of The Fruit. We Allowed This Fruit To Undergo A Long, Cool Fermentation In Steel But Transitioned Half The Batch To 2 Brand New French Oak Barrels. It Finished Fermentation And Aged For An Additional 9 Months On The Lees. We Blended This "oaked" Lot With The More Fruit-forward Fraternal Twin That Stayed In Stainless Steel. The Resulting Wine Is Rich With Caramel, Vanilla, And Tropical Fruit Aromatics And A Creamy Mouthfeel Supported By Just The Right Amount Of Acidity On The Finish. That's Why This Is Only The Third Wine At 2 Lads To Wear The Reserve Label; Its Consistent With Our Beliefs: Bold, Modern, True.
White Wines: Pinot Grigio
2011 Pinot Grigio
17.00 - 183.60
Other Vintages »pinot Grigio Is The White Grape Of Which We Have The Most Acreage Here At 2 Lads Winery. In Fact, At 5.8 Acres It Is Approximately One Quarter Of Our Vineyard And Very Well Suited To Our Site. Our Separate Blocks Were Planted In 1999 (4 Acres) And 2001 (1.8 Ac) And Have Interestingly Different Soil Types For Being 600 Ft From Each Other. The South Block Is Sandy-loam And The North Block Is A Clay-loam. Both Sites Show Very Different Flavors With Which We Make Our Still And Sparkling Pinot Grigio.
White Wines: Riesling
2011 Riesling Fouch Vineyard
20.00 - 216.00
The Grapes For This Wine Come From A Vineyard Two Miles Down Smokey Hollow Road On A Neighbor's Farm, Owned By Dan Fouch And His Wife, Mary Ann. They Are Growing About 5 Acres Of Riesling Grapes Exclusively For Two Lads. The Grapes Are Grown On Clayish Soils Which Contributes To The Wines Floral Aromas And Exotic Fruit Flavors When Vinified. The Flavors And Aromatics Differ So Much So From The Small Acreage Of Riesling Grown On Our Estate That We Prefer To Keep Them Separate And Create Two Different Styles Of Riesling, Both To Our High Standards.
2011 Riesling 2l Vineyard
24 Per Bottle
Our One Acre Block Of Riesling Was Planted In 2008 On Two Different Soil Types. The Southern Part Of The Block Has A Deep Loam Soil While The More Northern Section Of The Block Has A Gravel/clay Mix. These Different Soil Types Offer Diverse Flavor Profiles To The Grapes, And Create A Nice Balace When Blended Together. Our 2l Vineyard Riesling Is Produced In A Drier Fashion, Holding True To Our Style Of Wines.
White Wines: Rose
2011 Cabernet Franc Rose
The 2011 Growing Season Offered Up A Great Vintage For Both Red And White Wines, And Our Bold Style Of Rosé Benefited As Well. All The Rhubarb, Strawberry, And Vanilla Aromas That You've Come To Expect, With A Rich Mouthfeel That Can Only Be Described As Sexy. The Grapes For This Rosé Came From A Designated Section Of Our Cabernet Franc Block. The Grapes Were Hand Picked And Gently Crushed, Followed By Short Skin Contact To Create Our Intensely-colored And Fruit-forward Signature Style.
Red Wines
2011 Pinot Noir
We Could Throw Out A Bunch Of Typical Killer-bottle-of-wine Clichés, But We Don't Need To: This One Speaks For Itself, And You'll Know As Soon As You Taste It.the 2011 Vintage Was About As Close To 'average' As One Might Get In Northern Michigan. Not Average In Terms Of Fruit Quality Or Wines Created As The Wines From 2011 Are Exceptional Examples Of Typicity For The Varietals We Grow On Omp But Average In Terms Of Heat Summation, Growing Degree Days And High Quality Fruit. In Fact, We Were Almost Exactly 5% Warmer Than Our Average Omp Weather Which Means Mother Nature Gave Us A Shot At Doing One Of The Things That We Do Best - Growing Wonderful Pinot Noir!
2010 Pinot Noir Reserve
What Happens To Pinot Noir When It's Grown On The Clay Soils Of Old Mission Peninsula Rather Than The Ubiquitous Sandy Soils Of Northern Michigan? Pure Magic, In The Form Of Concentrated Fruit And Bigger, Bolder Flavors. That's Why We Created Our First-ever Reserve Pinot Noir. With Richer, More Complex Aromatics, This New World-style Pinot Shows Off Its Youthful Confidence With Sweet Vanilla, Black Cherry, Dusty Cocoa And Subtle Rootbeer Notes. The Warmer Summer Of 2010 Enhanced The Ripeness Of The Fruit, Making For A Silky, Fuller-bodied Mouthfeel And A Perfect Balance Of Tannins And Acidity That 11 Months Of Barrel Aging Only Improved. We Like It Bold, And We're Pretty Sure You Will Too.our Grapes For The 2010 Reserve Pinot Noir Are 100% Old Mission Peninsula Grown And Come From Three Different Farms: 3 Little Bears Vineyard, Harbor Downs Vineyard And The 2lads Estate Vineyard. The Majority Of The Soils For Our Reserve Were Clay And It Is Predominantly The 777 Clone
Red Wines: Merlot
2007 Merlot
Merlot Is One Of The Two Bordeaux Varieties Estate-grown At 2 Lads. Northern Michigan’s Early Bud Break, Warm Summer, And Late Fall Heat Contributed To Creating A Vintage With Tremendous Concentration And Intensity. These Grapes Were The First We Ever Brought Into The Building Here At 2lads (sigh) . The Berries Had Just Started To Slightly Dehydrate (and Therefore Concentrate The Juice Inside) And The Resulting Wine Offers Everything That You Would Expect From This Process. sold out
Red Wines: Cabernet Franc
2010 Cabernet Franc Merlot
The Warm Growing Season Of 2010 Was Great For Our Red Grape Varieties. We Were Able To Pick Earlier Than We Have In The Past (mid-october Instead Of Early November) But Were Still Able To Achieve The Ripeness We Desire That Leads To A Bolder Wine In The Glass. We Blended Our Cab Franc And Merlot Again As Well (55% Cab Franc/45% Merlot) , Creating A Fuller Bodied Wine With A Long Silky Finish. Yet Again, This Wine Holds True To Our Bold-style Of Red Wine And Can Be Enjoyed Now Or Allowed To Age In The Bottle Until An Estimated Peak At2015
2007 Cabernet Franc Reserve
Our Cab Franc Reserve Is Derived From Meticulous Vineyard Work Throughout The Year Coupled With A Truly Spectacular Vintage For Red Fruit - If You Can Remember Back To The Time When The Term 'reserve' Or 'winemaker's Reserve' Actually Meant Something - You'll Appreciate This. 2lads Hand-sorting Fruit, Employing Gravity Flow Techniques And Unique Winemaking Practices Ensure A Complex, Bold, And Unforgettable Wine. We Pride Ourselves On Our Small Batch Cabernet Franc Production And Will Always Strive To Deliver Exceptional Quality
Red Wines: Sparkling Wines
2011 Sparkling Pinot Grigio
After Taking A Hiatus From Production During The 2010 Vintage Due To The Really Warm Growing Season, We Returned To Making Our 100% Sparkling Pinot Grigio During The 2011 Season. We Had Very Typical Northern Michigan Weather During The 2011 Growing Season That Allowed For An Early Harvest Of The Fruit For This Wine. This Means The Acids Remained A Bit Higher And Sugars Lower, Right Where We Like Them For Our ‘sparklers’. After Primary Fermentation, We Bottled Up The Juice For Secondary Fermentation (the Traditional Method Of Making Sparkling Wines) Which Creates Small, Elegant Bubbles And Lends Itself To Higher Level Of Delicacy Than Secondary Fermentation In Tank. We Let It Sit 6 To 10 Months ‘en Tirage’ Before Disgorging And Dosaging Which Keeps It Fruity And Bright
2009 Sparkling Reserve

Tasting Notes Directly From Our Winemaker (try To Say It In Your Best South African Accent!) : Soft Aromatics Of Ripe Pear And Baked Apple Pie With Hints Of Limestone And Peach Blossom. Lively Mouthfeel That Triggers Your Taste Buds To Enjoy The Very Essence Of Grape Flavors
