W: The Bryggen is a beautiful place to explore. Try to see it from the inside, too.Bergen’s most famous site is the Bryggen — its World Heritage-listed Hanseatic wharf, whose brightly painted wooden buildings have been standing for hundreds of years.

W: The Fløibanen Funicular is located in the center of town and a short journey to the top. The view is pictured above.There are two options to view Bergen from above: the Fløibanen Funicular and the Mount Ulriken Cable Car. Between the two of them, I preferred the Fløibanen Funicular. Even though it didn’t go as high, I thought the view was prettier and being right in the center of town, it was less of a journey to get there. The Fløibanen Funicular costs 85/43 NOK ($13/$6.50 USD) round-trip/one-way for adults and 43/22 NOK ($6.50/$3 USD) round-trip/one-way for kids. You can also walk up a paved path for free.

W: This restaurant is the number 1 restaurant in Bergen and it is not surprising why. The food is really superb, the service is excellent and the ambience is fantastic. Of so many fine dining restaurants that I have been to in different countries, I can say that this is one of the best and I will highly recommended to any foodie! Price wise, it is similar to any fine dining places worldwide, but using Norwegian’s standard, it is certainly money well spent since everything is also expensive

W: It is a “must-go” place for fresh seafood and just next to the Bergen harbour. There are many stalls in the fish market and we ate this stall called “Fjellskal”. You pick the seafood that you want and you can then tell the chef what you want it to be cooked (eg sashimi, grilled, pan-fried, etc). I ordered the seafood soup, crab, cod tongue, scallops, and different types of fish. The food is pretty good (if you are a seafood lover, this is a great place to go), though for the cod tongue, the one that I had at Emma’s in Tromso is by far the best. Though this is a fish market, the price is not cheap, but what’s surprising, this is Norway afterall.

W: If you ever head far north, you have to try reindeer. It’s my favorite exotic meat — rich yet lean and extremely tender. At To Kokker, the best course was an absurdly soft reindeer steak in a berry and brown cheese sauce. Also on the menu: elk carpaccio, mussels and turbot, and panna cotta.Finally, I allowed myself one splurge — a four-course dinner with wine pairings at To Kokker, a restaurant literally inside the Bryggen. The place feels like a time capsule, with low ceilings and slanted wooden floors. Still, though, I’m not sure I would recommend it unless you’re really into food. It’s pricey at 395/595 NOK ($60/91 USD), though I had a 50% press discount) and though it was delicious, it wasn’t quite the rhapsody I expected. I’d rather spend big bucks on a meal in France, Italy, or Spain.

W: They served one of the best lattes I’ve ever had.

W: Fishing port

W: Due to a devastating fire which burned a large proportion of the city to the ground in 1904, the entire town was rebuilt in the fashionable style at the time, Art Noveau.

W: National centre for Art Noveau. The museum offers everything from modern multimedia presentations to original interiors, and provides a fascinating insight into the history of Art Noveau.

W: Norway's national shrine. The cathedral is built over the burial place of St. Olav, Norway's patron saint. Here you can admire its incredible architectural details and exquisite works of art. Can take a guided tour of the cathedral.

W: Museum of Musical History. This beautiful manor house was the childhood home of Norwegian naval hero Petter Wessel Tordenskiold, and is surrounded by a wonderful botanical garden. The museum is conveniently located just outside Trondheim, and so represents an idyllic spot to enjoy the beautiful views of both the city and the fjord.

W: Once at the top there is a cafe with a roaring fire and a bar serving a cold Macks beer.

W: It's hard to miss Polaria, Tromsø's unique new museum dedicated to everything to do with the Arctic. Designed to look like Arctic ice floes pressed up on land by rough seas, Polaria is located just a few minutes walk from the centre of Tromsø and boasts an Arctic aquarium (complete with bearded seals), interesting knowledge-based exhibits, and an incredible panoramic cinema featuring films on the Arctic wilderness. Afterwards, visit the Arctic Walkway to experience firsthand an Arctic winter storm, a dozing polar bear, the tundra and the aurora borealis.

W: Just before the Tromsø bridge on the mainland sits the delightfully triangular Tromsdal Church, better known as the Arctic Cathedral. This striking example of the bold modern architecture now common throughout Norway was designed by Jan Inge Hovig in 1965, and is worth visiting for the immense 1500 sq. ft. stained glass window showing the return of Christ that occupies the building's entire east end.

W: The Macks bar located in town and is an absolute must do whilst in Tromso. The staff are highly knowledgeable in their craft beer and are keen to get the right beer for you. There is also a giant stuffed polar bear which makes for great photos.

W: Constructed in 1861, Tromsø Cathedral is located southwest of the main quay in the city center. The wooden cathedral's altarpiece is a spectacular copy of the Adolph Tidemand's Resurrection. Other important features include the large stained glass windows in the front of the church, designed by Gustav Vigeland and installed in 1960

W: With its tremendous number of mountains, there's really no such thing as a bad view in Norway. One of the best views of Tromsø can be had from the top of Mount Fløya (1,380 ft.), accessible by cable car. Other vistas around the area are a little more difficult to access, but are definitely worth the effort, and include views from the summits of the Lyngen Alps, Mount Tromsdaltind in Tromsø, and the Istindan Mountains in Bardu.

W: Starting life as a customs station in 1789, Skansen is the oldest house in Tromsø. Even older than this picturesque house and the many smaller buildings that surround it are its foundations, the remnants of mediaeval fortifications dating from the 13th Century.
