Xiao long bao, spicywonton, pork chop and finally the first real nice hot and sour soup (not the usual salty one from typical Chinese restaurant/take away)
Taiwanese restaurant that has finally opened in London. There’s a reason there are still queues at the original Taiwanese branches - DTF serves good comfort food which is affordable even in London.
I used to go to the original Din Tai Fung regularly. The food here gets a solid 75-80/100. Service, price, and interior upkeep get a ~20/100. Still worth it.
It was the first time I ate dumplings and it was so delicious. The restaurant is nice and waiters are great! A place to try but have to arrive early to avoid a long wait...
DTF is delicious. Midweek late lunch there was no queue. Service was ok, the food was sensational. It’s pricier than other DTF’s in Asia. Chili crab and the chicken Dumplings were my favourite.
DTF is like the McDonald’s of Taiwanese cuisine, but the good aspects: reliably tasty XLB, decent service etc. Come on the edges of peak meal times to make sure you’re not waiting for hours.
The soup dumplings were well made. Hard to recommend until they sort out teething issues. They ran out of ginger so we had to have dumplings without. Avoid bubble teas as they are horribly sweet.
On the fence here. Dumplings were nice and we had pork & noodles which was also ok. But given the amount of fantastic restaurants in London, I don’t think you’ll miss anything if you skip on this one.
If you are brown, the person taking your name would just show major attitude and you would not feel welcomed at this place. I stood and watched how she spoke to the others and could see the difference
45 min queue, Chinese tea by the cup, beers @ £6/bottle, food is just ok, calm ambience. Ken Hom review by the front door. Lots of buzz on Instagram. All the ingredients of an unsustainable business.
Pretty disappointing. You’re paying for hype and location. I waited in line just to get on the waiting list. Bottom floor is 3/4 empty. Food was under seasoned and pretty bland? Wouldn’t recommend
The xiao long bao (soup dumplings) are divine, but for a good tonkatsu you're better off at CoCo Ichi. If you've tried the xiao long bao once, I don't see many reasons to come back — queues or not.
In case you come alone and ask for a table for 2, you will not be seated until your partner arrives... that is a terrible service and I never heard of it anywhere else.
