We took a tour of these caves and really enjoyed it. I learned a lot about (their) wines and tasted some pretty delicious wines at the end. They have a store too where you can buy your favorite wines.
Great tour! Funny guide. Good tasting at the end. We bought the white port. Spoiler: port is not wine, but liquor. It's not made in Porto, but in Villa Nova de Gaia. Interesting!
English tours starts at 4p and 520p in the afternoon. Tour only takes 20mins or less. You’re left on your own after the tastings introductions. Max overall takes about an hour from start to finish
Can only recommend taking the cheese and chocolate tasting as part of the tour. We got our own corner for ourselves and could enjoy the wine in our own tempo.
Perfect guided tour. The easy explained process how everything is done and why Porto as wive is sweet, even it calls dry. How the soil is structured. Have to visit before going to restaurant.
I found the tour really interesting, even when I had already done a porttour! I also really enjoyed the tasting and Fado music at the end, although it went on for quite a while.
The caves are neat and I learned a lot about how to make port. Perhaps they should serve better ports with the tastings though, as they probably were the worst that we tried in town :(
Sorry to say but this is a bit touristy - the tour is fine, but basic & a bit self-serving for the Lodge & tastes you get are red&white ports but not great (that was the general consensus at the table
