Go in the evening during the golden hour and watch the sunset. Then wait for the sky to turn dark and the city ligjts to light up. That way, you get to see 2different sights with one ticket.

This is the Temple we preferred among the most known. It closes at 5 so I suggest to go there at least 45 minutes before, to have time to enjoy buildings and gardens.
Bamboo gets better a bit in so you need at least 2 hours to enjoy this hike properly. Stunning outdoor area though and nice and shady :)

Come early in the morning to be able to admire 1001 statues without the crowd. It's a pity you can't take pictures inside the temple. For me, it has been one of the most impressive places in Kyoto.
