Maren: Chofu
is a nice suburb of metropolitan Tokyo. Not many foreigners. North of
the station there is a beautiful temple and shrine (free to go in and

Maren: station building has amazing architecture, roof top garden (at isetan department store, take escalators up to 11th floor!)
Maren: walk around in ancient Kyoto and see where geishas and maikos used to live (and you can still see them, but note that most geishas you see walking in pairs are dressed up tourists ;-)) Real geishas are often walking alone and not during day, but from early evening
Maren: beautiful temple area in northern Kyoto, less tourists than at other famous places. Temples cost around 400 Yen to get in, but it's nice to walk around and you can pay for one, see it from the inside and look at the others from outside. Also good tip for rainy days, as atmosphere is really cool then. But take an umbrella.
Maren: a must-go, it's my favorite place in the world. It's beautiful and if you take the effort to go all the way up the mountain, tourists get less (unfortunately there are lots of tourists these days), but it's so amazing. plan about 3 hours to walk around
Maren: area around this shrine is really beautiful, lots of other shrines and temples, small old alleys and real Kyoto-feeling
Maren: lots of shops, department stores and souvenir shops, buy Japanese foods and other things
Maren: day trip from Kyoto, nice Japanese city, old temples, and around the temple/park area are lots of deer (and watch out, they eat your clothes :D). 8 temples of Nara belong to UNESCO WHS
Maren: in case you go to Hiroshima, you can easily go there too. Beautiful torii (wooden shrine gate) in the water
