OHHHHHHH my god. This food. THIS FOOD. The curry salmon with buttered roti is out of this world, as is the truffle Mac and cheese. share the seafood 1/2lb plate with your date. No regrets. Coming back
The food was good, loved the spices and flavors! I had king prawns and took a bite of the salmon from my friend's plate :P will be coming back for more!
One of only two places you can get Malva pudding in NYC. Sunday brunch was reasonably priced with delicious roasted potatoes/veggies on the side and they fill your unlimited mimosas FAST on Sundays :)
A beautiful restaurant serving modern yet authentic South African cuisine. Try the Sosaties, Bobotie, Boerewors or the Road Runner. Great selection of wine and beer.
Went there with my friend for brunch. Had some awesome mini ostrich burgers. Tasted so good. We each got bottomless mimosas also which turned out to be deadly LOL
Very very tasty South African food. Get the avocado & lobster salad to start then Chicken Bobotie. Finish with the African pudding. Great ambiance too- good date spot.
As mentioned in previous posts, the truffle mac and cheese is to die for. However, it wasn't even that crowded of a night and the service was slow. The check even took long! My only complaint.
If I knew how authentic South African food was I would start my review there, but I don't. Therefore it was delicious, but not an amazing introduction to a breakout culinary destination.
Hell’s Kitchen: Great South African food and brunch menu. Ostrich anything anyone? Entrees run from $8-15 with $12 AYCD mimosas or $12 two-for-1 Peri Peri Bloodys (South African Bloody marys)
Delicious food (must eat the lamb empanadas), don't come here on a busy night...its too chaotic and the service isn't quite as good as it usually is. Make a reservation ahead of time.
They brought Motton Sosatie (Skewer Lamb), Mini Malva Pudding (traditional sponge cake with apricot flavorings), and South African Rum Punch to Choice Eats- the sponge cake was my favorite!
Peri Peri Prawns and Barbecue Balsamic Chicken are solid. Not my first thought of South African food; South Africa is of many influences, immigration patterns, and colonization. So theres that.
The apricot sponge cake is amazing! And I dont eat desert so this is def worth a try. Also the atmosphere is so relaxing. The ribs are also tasty. A must try
The name of this restaurant is Afrikaans for "barbecue" or "roast." Try the lamb sandwich with mango mint chutney, biltong quiche, or one of the popular mini-burgers (lamb, ostrich, chicken, salmon). Read more
The African Road Runner is amazing! It's a very tender and juicy ostrich fillet, you will crave this for weeks. The decor and music is fitting and inviting. Don't miss the cocktails, pretty unique.
Great atmosphere and the friendliest staff. Get the African Roadrunner. It's the best Ostrich fillet you'll ever have. The cocktails are wonderful too.
Located in the heart of Hell's Kitchen in NYC. "Braai" meaning Bbq is South Africa's favorite past-time. Being the Rainbow nation it has a melting pot of culinary influences from Native African to Dutch, English, French, Malaysian, Portuguese & Indian. Be transported to Safari in the City.
