Susanne: The building once hosted the National Council of the GDR so you will find a lot of socialist art inside. The glass screen (1964) by Walter Womacka is the largest. The foyer is open to the public.
Susanne: Here there was the Pressecafé. The only remnant is the sign on the corner. The large colored frieze of industrial enamel (1969-73) by Willy Neubert has disappeared behind the Escados advertising.
Susanne: The fountain is another work of Walter Womacka. It was build in 1970 as part of the redesign of Alexanderplatz designed by the artist collective around him.
Susanne: On the eastern façade you can see the copper work "Der Mensch überwindet Zeit und Raum", short: "Mensch und Raum" ("Man transcends time and space" or "Man and Space"), 1971, by Walter Womacka.
Susanne: The special feature is an encircling frieze entitled Our Life by Walter Womacka. It shows representations of the social life in the GDR & is one of the greatest works of art in Europe (7x125m).
Susanne: The buildings of the Art Academy are an outstanding monument of postwar modernism. Among others you can see the mural "Turning Point" (1956) by Arno Mohr in the main building.

Susanne: The entrance adorns a 9×15m mosaic entiteled "Aus dem Leben der Völker der Sowjetunion" (The Life of the People of the Soviet Union),1964, by Bert Heller.
