Wow! The fried chicken breast was amazing. Probably the best I've ever eaten and I've eaten a lot! Fresh, vintage, down home Cookin' at its best! I bought breast and wing Coop Meal with the Creme Soda
The chickwich is vastly superior to most fast-food fried chicken sandwiches, because the chicken was perfectly fried- crispy on the outside, not too thick, and still moist in the interior. Read more
Southern fried chicken done right! I prefer their original with skin. It's nice and crispy yet juicy. Biscuits are must. Their pies are just as good as their chicken if not better.
Pie shake! Pie crust inside a shake. So delicious and yet disgusting at the same time. I had the double cherry one and it was very good. The fried chickens were also not bad.
The chicken is awesome! Wasn't expecting it to be so flavorful and moist. I went for the Classic fried I'm a skin fan. Definitely will return. Staff can be a bit more inviting to first timers however
The food here is too good to be true. Try their chicken tenders, Mac and cheese, banana pie, and fry mashed potatoes. It has real fries in it! How awesome is that!?! The entire staff is sweet
Absolutely the best fried chicken (Mama Els) and grilled chicken sandwiches in NYC. The homemade pie cups are awesome too. And don't miss the Boylan fountain soda. Free refills!
Casual, tasty cafeteria style food in an ideal location. The chicken sandwiches are great. The seating on the lower level has a fun gameroom feel. Great place for lunch with friends.
The chicken is always really juicy and flavorful. I like the classic style better than Mama El's. Best "fast food" chicken joint I've been to, and they're consistent. Decent service.
We’re all about the crunchy cracker breading. Order the thigh and drumstick deluxe with a buttermilk biscuit and a side of cheesy fried mashed potatoes. Read more
Better than pies 'n thighs. (#Ohnohedidnt) Get it to go and eat in Madison Square Park, or get it to stay and eat down in the "Rec Room" which has an arcade machine and foosball!
You’ll find a worthy a.m. offering in the Eggs Armadillo. This Texan Benedict twist features a poached egg quivering on a flaky buttermilk biscuit doused in rich sausage gravy. $5 per egg.
When they are fresh their tenders may very well be some of the best chicken tenders around. The key word being fresh. Also, don't pass on the pickles, perfect pairing.
Get the $8.00 Chickwich! Its worth it. Only problem is you start craving Chick-fil-A afterwards. If you have ever been down south you know what I'm saying! :)
Although some would argue that the only thing better than a warm slice of pie is a warm slice à la mode, New York City’s Hill Country Chicken takes it one step further with the Cowboy Pie Milkshake.
Apparently they dropped the Solo Coop Combos AND the free mini pie after every three Foursquare checkins. While this doesn't change the fact that they make great food, I might be coming less often.
Best fried chicken in the city me thinks. The bums are also nice and hassle you from the warmth of your chair. No need to battle the cold for panhandlers.
On The Best Thing I Ever Ate, Scott Conant goes crazy for Mama Els' Fried Chicken at Hill Country Chicken, a fresh fried chicken joint frying up all-natural chicken. Find more tips at FN Local. Read more
3 Georgians here agree--this classic TX style fried chicken is NOT like true southern fried chicken. The batter has a lot of sugar in it...sugar that would be put to better use in the ice-tea!
Over priced but really good. get the tenders I think they're better than the actual fried chicken and with the honey mustard on them they're top notch. Get a black cherry soda to wash it down.
Great chicken, but let's be serious -- if you're coming here, it's to get a pie shake. That's right, a milkshake that has a mini pie blended into it. You're welcome.
Pie Happy Hour (M-F, 4-6pm) get a complimentary cup of coffee with any slice of pie and get a second slice at half-price. The Fried Pimento Cheese Sandwich is best before desert.
Sort of like BBQ fried chix. Dark red -spicy outer layer. Lots of flavor/meat moistness. Not Southern traditional. Decent prices. Beer available. Lots of sit down space. (2 of 4 petals via Fondu) Read more
Try the chickwich. It is cooked to order and piping hot. And ask for really hot fries. Worth the wait. Wish they offered lemon meringue pie more often!
Hill Country honors the barbecue and live music capital of Texas and takes its “cue” from the legendary meat-markets-turned- barbecue-joints of Central Texas with their distinctive, dry-rub style.
