- Jim FisherSeptember 16, 2011Awesome: Mama El's. Pimento mac & cheese. Fire & ice pickles. Apple Cheddar pie. Good: Cole slaw. Biscuits. Ok: Classic recipe fried chicken. Want to try: Pie Shake
- The Coop in dark meat. Ask for half mashed potato and half mac and cheese to get the best of both worlds.
- Rebecca MazzaJanuary 21, 2017Awesome spicy chicken sandwich and the whiskey pie cup was delicious too
- Get a cup for the soda fountain and combine the black cherry with cream soda. It's the best.
- The Kid' Coop is the best buy! It doesn't seem like a lot, but after the first Texas finger, you're halfway stuffed!

- Village VoiceDecember 12, 2013Hill Country Chicken specializes in biscuits that go great with sausage gravy, or used for breakfast sandwiches.
- Joanna KamienJune 9, 2013Sit downstairs super comfortable and quiet + they have games (jenga!!!) and a Pac Man machine
- Mo SOctober 16, 2012Seriously juicy fried chicken. Really good, and lives up to its hype. Skip the fries though, they really weren't that good. Pies according to my friend were a winner.
- Gentrifried ChickenNovember 6, 2011Favorite fried chicken near Flatiron. We prefer the Original over the Mama's skinless option. The milkshakes are outstanding as well. Read more
- J CrowleyJuly 28, 2018Note to self: I don’t love the wicked witch. It comes with some sweet sauce and sweet pickles. 🤢
- Erin ShepherdOctober 14, 2011Breakfast is awesome except the cheese grits. If you know and love grits don't get them here
- Justin OrdovezaOctober 16, 2014The pie I think is overrated. The atmosphere on the lower levels is comfortable.
- When you're craving a heart attack, try Hill Country. Pretty damned tasty.
- Great fried chicken, easy counter service. The downstairs feels like your grandparents basement-in a good way.
- Melissa HurwitzJuly 4, 2014I want to love this place. Great food, location, style, toys for kids, fun for the family. But the basement is really dirty.
- Angela WangelaSeptember 18, 2010If you're not interested in trying both kinds to decide for yourself, get the Classic. It's way tastier than Mama El's even though they seem to use monster chickens for Mama's recipe.
- Yummy fried chicken, cole slaw was creamy and crunchy yum, and fresh lemonade! So delicious! Best I've had in NYC
- Mac and cheese isn't on the menu but they offer it as a side. It's $0.50 extra. But the cheesy mash potatoes are better. Coleslaw isn't worth getting. They also have Shiner Bock on draft
- Chris EvansOctober 31, 2014Big fan of the mash potato side. Decent chicken that will leave you satisfied, but slightly below Blue Ribbon for reference.
- Nancy HeOctober 15, 2014Really good fried chicken. Amazing biscuit. Great pies...especially key lime.
- Jaycob BurnsOctober 6, 2013I was all about some fall caramel apple pie until the girl taking my order passionately argued in favor of a sweet potato pie cup. It was a good call
- Soo YooJune 7, 2012Original fried chicken, buttermilk biscuits, cheesy mashed potatoes. This place is a great gourmet fast food option.

- DoubleDeuceFebruary 29, 2016The bathrooms are downstairs. And there is a ton of seating downstairs as well.
- Angela WSeptember 21, 2013Totally impressed with their double cherry pie and chocolate cream pie. Truly tastes as good as my Mom's! (Sorry mom!)
- MQNIQUEJune 20, 2016I should've known this was going to be some garbage when I walked in and the only black folks I saw worked there.... pass on this spot if you can help it!!!
- Margaret SuhMarch 4, 2014Ask about the family portion-- great deal for a group! Oh and get the pickles, too.

- Zahid ZamanJuly 11, 2012The veggie Texas Hand Roll (fried avocado!) with a side of corn and root beer is a vegetarian's dream!
- Head downstairs for quiet, peaceful meal time ✌. You could probably even study here.
- Great place for breakfast meetings. If the upstairs is crowded, head downstairs. The 70s rec room vibe is intense, but good.
- Lots of cozy seating in the basement. Just watch out, the steps will send you through a time warp straight back to the 1970's. Lite-Brite FTW.
- The sides are pretty good, and of course the chicken is great.
- What's Good HereAugust 8, 2014Looking for some good fried chicken? Come here for Mama Els' and down it with some Boylen's soda.
- Holy moly! Opening day was crazy! Line out the door. Wait was ~ 40 min. Cool concept and desserts get a 10+. Buttermilk bourbon pie; say no more. My chicken was good but got cold waiting to pay.
- John Michael Di SpiritoJune 13, 2011Any place with Boylans on draft rocks! No Black Cherry sadly but Root Beer yay! Chicken tender breading is awesome. Very Hush Puppie-ish..
- Warren HershkowitzJuly 10, 2011Wow...this place renewed my belief in fried chucked places. Go here for the original recipe, stay for the Boylans soda on tap
- Elizabeth MillerJanuary 29, 2014Delicious pie! Worth the wait. (and you WILL wait, while the counter staff stands around. )
- River RoseMay 17, 2012Whatever you get, make sure you get a Boylan soda and cheesy mashed potatoes with it. You won't regret it.
