Take a free Capitol Tour. All tours leave from inside the South Foyer. Led by an expert guides the tours generally depart every 20 to 30 minutes and last for approximately 30 minutes.

Open on weekends until 5pm. Check out the broadway type lights in the Texas House and Senate and the ornate door hinges. Everything is bigger... And brighter in Texas!

The Texas State Capitol sports a sunset-red granite dome topped by the Goddess of Liberty. This icon, finished in 1888, towers even higher than Washington DC's Capitol. Watch this video for more info. Read more
I love this building, especially the star on the top. From far you can't see "Texas" word, but if you see it closely you can read "Texas" word around the star. Must visit place in Austin!

If you haven't done it, you MUST stand in the center of the rotunda, look up, and speak softly. It is the most awesome your voice will ever sound! You don't need to speak loudly.
Morbid fact: The painter of the star inside the dome fell when his seat broke while painting. He shattered the floor, which was, at the time, made of the glass tiles that you now see in the library.

The largest statecapitol building in the United States, the Texas Capitol was constructed from 1882-1888. It is built of limestone and pink granite. The granite came from nearby Marble Falls.
