A world-class museum. The sheer volume will impress you. The stories and interpretations are lovely as well. I quite enjoyed the Money section and the material archaeology section this time.
Reserve a day for this museum. All exhibitions are dynamic, so you’ll need time to observe them as every item catches your eye. My personal favourite is about ancient Egypt. It’s just mesmerising.
Off the beaten track for most tourists but this is well worth a visit. The art is truly fantastic and has many masters; monet, manet, van Dyck and many others. Usually very quiet also. Great cafes
One of the greatest museums in the world. Exhibitions almost always fantastic. Cafe a little crowded, but rooftoprestaurant amazing with views all over city.
No idea about the quality of the restaurant but the basement cafe has one of the nicest selections of sandwiches in central Oxford. Great for when you're tired after a trip to the mummies!
If you're visiting the museum check out the roof-top restaurant and their afternoon teas. Very good and good value to boot! Starters are also eclectic and delicious.
Have you seen Manet's Portrait of Mademoiselle Claus on display in Gallery 65?The Ashmolean is campaigning to save it for the public http://www.ashmolean.org/manet/
