Italian Restaurant · Lakeview · 40 tips and reviews
Susan Nell: Totally casual, feels upscale. Stefano makes the best gnocchi this side of Italy and the pizza is unlike any other in town - crust is insanely good. Try a Margherita with sausage and thank me later.

Susan Nell: Fresh housemade chips and delicious salsa, a killer tequila list (if that's your thing) and creative dishes (plus all the ones you'd expect). Try the Sopes Oaxaquenos appetizer, you won't be sorry!
Burger Joint · Lake View East · 19 tips and reviews
Susan Nell: In the space that was formerly Hearty and still jointly run by the Hearty Boys, they have creative burgers and craft cocktails. Nice patio too, fenced off from the hustle of Broadway.
Susan Nell: Craft beers galore, respectable whiskey list too. Cozy and comfortable. You may think you want something besides a burger, but trust me, you don't. It's to die for. Skip the sweet potato fries though.
Susan Nell: Delicious array of baked goods for mere coins... I swear I fill up a tray and the whole thing costs like $3.50. If you like coconut, get the macaroons... dense and cake-like... fantastic!
American Restaurant · Uptown · 44 tips and reviews
Susan Nell: A slightly more modern option in the 'hood - imagine Bar on Buena, but with less natural light and a slightly clubbier vibe. Menu is pretty good, drink list better than average.
Susan Nell: Take a walk around the area of Buena Ave, Hazel, Junior, and Hutchinson. Beautiful old homes, many of which are actually registered as historic places.
Susan Nell: Buena is the easiest place to cross over to the lakefront path, and this lovely garden is just on the other side of the pedestrian underpass.
Susan Nell: Know what you want before you step inside, they suffer no fools at Byron's. No indoor seating or frills, just downright good burgers, dogs, and fries.
