Ryan Bright: This temple's garden was my favorite walk during my visit to Japan. The crowds are light approaching closing time, and the scenery is stunning. Highly recommend taking a walk here.
Ryan Bright: Bring comfortable shoes and prepare to walk many stairs to reach the top of the mountain. Well worth the climb. Come as early as possible, as it gets incredibly busy.
Ryan Bright: One of the most beautiful and iconic temples in Japan with crowds to prove it. Come early for the most enjoyable visit or late for the best lighting for photos.
Ryan Bright: Very packed during the day, so come early. Views are best when the autumn leaves are turning. The walking trails outside the temple are calm and have great views of the landscapes and temple itself.
Ryan Bright: Prepare for a hike and stunning views at the top of your climb. Be mindful of the camera rules. The monkeys walk alongside you and are very fun to watch - especially the youngest ones.
Ryan Bright: Absolutely stunning station with 11 levels of shopping, eateries, and interesting artwork. We ate our way through after arriving in Kyoto and spent a long time admiring the light stairs at night
Ryan Bright: Just outside of Kyoto Station, inexpensive, featuring wonderful views of the city. Come at night and use the binoculars! The level of detail you can see is incredible.
Ryan Bright: Try the tempura set with dipping noodles. The tempura was light and flavorful, the noodles chewy, and the broth customizable depending on the veggies you want to add.
Ryan Bright: Seated immediately for dinner - a relief given the waits back home in NYC. The karaka is one of my favorites anywhere, and the gyoza is also worth trying.
