These top-rated bars for live music deliver that stellar mix of touring and homegrown bands, plus cocktails and craft beer. Follow this list and put your dancing shoes on.
Sarah Aili: Keep it local and head to Barbes. Eclectic and off the cusp live music most every night, readings and film showings. The drinks are classy and the people are real. My favorite is Slavic Soul Party!
Ryan Thomas: This is a great venue to see new and emerging bands. The stage is easy to see and reach. The 2 bars and drinks deals are really good. The sound is excellent and crowds are intimate.

CMJ: Indie-rock still has a home in Manhattan at Cake Shop. The ceiling is low and the stage non-existent, so get there early and get to the front if you want to see the latest rising stars.

The Wild Honey Pie: Looks like this tiny venue got a major upgrade. New big space in the back has great sound. Also, Freelance Whales told me this is their favorite "hidden gem" venue in Brooklyn.
The Corcoran Group: If you’re not into metal, punk or hardcore rock, then you should definitely go somewhere else. Come for happy hour and their steamed pork buns!
