We've pulled together a list of our picks for the Best Chinese Restaurants of 2013, but if you're taking our advice, we'd suggest trying them all and deciding for yourself who tops the list!
Village Voice: Halal? Not the typical fare when you think Chinese, but this place showcases the Muslim cuisine of the North. The Lamb Homestyle comes with an omelet smothered in gravy and is beyond amazing.
Village Voice: Salty, smokey, sour and seriously spicy (rumored more so than Sichuan cuisine) there are some great vegetarian Hunan delicacies like the stir-fry of smoked bamboo that could even rival meat dishes!
27 Eldridge St (btwn Canal & Division St), New York, NY
Noodle Restaurant · Chinatown · 24 tips and reviews
Village Voice: With hand-pulled noodles and peeled noodles both made in-house we’re already in love. But add to that some of the best pork stuffed steamed dumplings in town and you’ll fall just as hard as we have.
171 E Broadway (btwn Rutgers & Jefferson St), New York, NY
Chinese Restaurant · Two Bridges · 400 tips and reviews
Village Voice: While it may not be completely authentic Chinese, we guarantee you’ll love some of the funky remixes here, like Kung Pao Pastrami. Chew on that!
Seafood Restaurant · Sunset Park · 86 tips and reviews
Village Voice: Calling all fans of crispy fried chicken skin (so…everyone right?). The crispy chicken with dry minced garlic is succulent with some seriously crackling skin!
Village Voice: One dish worth getting here, the unfortunately named “Fly Heads” is really a delicious heap of Chinese watercress and ground pork…our guess is the dish’s crunch inspired the name…enjoy!
Szechuan Restaurant · Midtown East · 67 tips and reviews
Village Voice: The food packs a serious punch utilizing chilies and Sichuan peppercorns. Cough up the cash for big ticket dishes like the braised whole fish filet with soy bean sprouts in roasted chili spiced broth.
103 Mott St (btwn Canal & Hester St), New York, NY
Seafood Restaurant · Little Italy · 40 tips and reviews
Village Voice: For super fresh dim sum, get here before noon. But even if you happen to stumble out of bed a little later the dim sum is still some of the best in town (and inexpensive too!)
Village Voice: Feeling especially sophisticated? The Cross Over Bridge Noodles are served with rose petals, vegetables, and pineapple. No joke. Rose petals. In your soup.
68 Forsyth St Frnt B (btwn Grand & Hester St), New York, NY
Chinese Restaurant · Lower East Side · 184 tips and reviews
Village Voice: Spicy Village tells it like it is with their Spicy Big Tray Chicken: an enormous platter of chicken with mouth numbing Sichuan peppercorns (share it if you want to spare some taste buds).
