A great museum covering many expeditions, not only the Peruvian journey. The exposition to Easter Island is particularly interesting. Great for families and kids but also for the adventurous at heart.
The exhibition is nice and seeing the raft used to travel across the Pacific Ocean is breathtaking. There is also the Oscar won by the documentary. The museum is free with the Oslo Pass.
A nice museum which tells the whole story of Thor Heyerdahlexpeditions, research works and life story. An exposition is very interactive. If you have teenage kids they should like it.
Thor Heyerdahl was an amazing person, and seeing the rafts makes his journeys so immediate. It really gets you on the journey with him. I like the layout, particularly the whale under the boat!
I had Oslo Pass so I really don't know if the price is worthy or not. I liked to read about the expedition journey by raft. There were some interesting and funny histories in how they survive.
Really cool, but I strongly recommend to watch the movie before visit the museum. Is better to have some ideas before get in touch with all information the museum provides.
You can pre-buy ferry tickets here for NOK30. On the boat it costs NOK50. No other museums on Bygdøy peninusla seem to sell ferry tickets. We learned the hard way.
