An 8th century castle that was partially rebuilt in the 19th century. It includes a ruined chapel and a Moorish cistern. See one of Portugal's medieval treasures and take in the views.
Beautiful ruins of an ancient moorish castle in Sintra. Entrance fee is not cheap but the views over the surroundings and Palácio da Pena are stunning and well worth the price.
If you’re doing a Sintra day trip, I would recommend Moorish castle and the Pena Palace. Can buy your tickets online in advance for a slight discount too. View from it is breathtaking.
absolute worth the trip and hike up to the castle top! although this may not be the best for any who are scared of heights as you feel as high as the clouds up there
Loved it! To really see the nooks and crannies of the Sintra parks you need true stamina and Moorish Castle is not for the faint of heart. I had vertigo but fought through it. It's exhilarating!
10 mins downhill walk from the palace of Pena. it's amazing to take a walk along the wall of the castle. you can also take the picture of the Pena from here.
8th century castle that was partially rebuilt by Dom Fernando II in the 19th century. It includes a ruined chapel and Moorish cistern. See one of Portugal's medieval treasures and take in the views.
The castle is great but avoid at all costs the walking path by the mountain, from the church. It's big and horrible - by car you can actually get very near Mouros and Pena castles.
Awesome castle, incredible views. You can really picture the life in it when it was built. A bus is available to get to it, but is nicer to walk using a GR footpath that starts near the town.
From the old part of town, take the walking trail up to Castelo dos Mouros. Make sure to start before 6 pm so that you get to the top before they close the inside of the castle!
