Lots of Keralans eat beef, so there's great beef dishes on the menu, just not front and centre - try the Syrian Christian dish, erachi olarthiathu, a stir fry of beef, peppercorns and roasted coconut

Vegetable stew. A pleasant surprise. The vegetables were cooked in coconut milk, lending a creamy sweet flavour to the greens. Effective to counter the spicy dishes

Appam. Their basic appam had clean, fresh flavours. We enjoyed it so much with our curries, we ordered another round!

Butter chicken. Prepared mildly spiced, suitable for those who don’t want too much heat. Served with a slice of butter!

Purata (or what locals call prata) was yummy. Chewy. Evenly fried with just the right amount of burnt bits

Fried peppered Squid. Packs a heaty punch due to the pepper used

Malabar chicken biryani is made using jeerakasala rice - a sweet, aromatic short-grain rice only grown in Kerala
