I've seen some great concerts and had many a "last" shot. It's never really your last shot. One day, Mike Birbiglia served me a beer. I did a triple take. It was a good beer.

John Hodgman (of Daily Show and Mac & PC fame among other things) has been hosting a somewhat weekly show downstairs called Secret Society. Catch it if you want cheap smart funny comedy.
It's easy to spend the whole afternoon here. Wait for one of the couches to open by the fire and lounge around while ordering drinks, snacks, or real food. Bocci leagues occupy courts on Sunday's

Get there early to grab a seat! Also, this may make me sound like a wimp but they have really tasty ginger ale for those nights you just can't stomach alcohol.
Grab a comfy chair by the fire and have a pint and an order of sliders. Or enjoy a game of bocce. Or venture downstairs for a live show or a spelling bee.
This looks like a library! Got a negroni (well my bf did...I got a whiskeyginger and it wasn't much to talk about) and that was perfectly made. Good atmosphere!
Browse the vintage tomes that line this bar's walls with a bookish date, or head downstairs for one of the venue’s music or comedy shows, such as Eugene Mirman’s weekly Pretty Good Friends. Read more
Quite possibly my favorite Brooklyn bar. Bocce courts on the top floor, decorated like a library, concert/dance parties in the basement, and weather permitting an outdoors area.
Refreshingly large bar for NYC with a relaxed, neighborhood atmosphere. Enjoyed the Union Hall Iced Tea. Lots of couches, small courtyard, and bocce ball!

Between the bocce, downstairs indie club & the outdoor beer garden, you won't know what to do with yourself. My tip: Have one of their 40+ beer selections. Cool fact: downstairs bathroom is coed.

This place is huge—15,000 feet, former warehouse huge. It’s so cavernous that it becomes like a dozen private bars. Just watch out for couples getting…a little too cozy on the couches.
A great, cozy bar where you can curl up on big, leather-tufted couches next to a fire; get social playing bocce ball or partake in their rotating events downstairs.
Sit upstairs where the walls are covered with leather-bound books and a fire roars in front of comfy couches. It’s sort of like the library-meets-bar you wish you had when you went to college.
If you happen to love bocce ball and live music, you’re in luck. Roll a game up top and head downstairs afterwards for a live set from a sure-to-be-cool band. - Jim Shearer, Top 20 Countdown
