    Definitely a very public venue. Lots of people walking, jogging, playing, sunbathing, relaxing, and taking photos.

    big open area, lots of food trucks on the avenues in the summer. avoid "Wasub?!" as they are wicked slow

    Visit the fountain on the mall side of the National Archives. The sign says no wading but security didn't mind us putting our feet in.

    They currently have much of the Mall fenced of for renovation. If got are visiting Smithsonian museums you might have a two to three block detour. Plan accordingly

    Street parking is free on weekends. Arrive early to get a spot on the Mall. Plenty of spaces on C or D as well.

    Best place on the whole Mall is between the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and the Washington Monument - It's the Declaration of Independence Signers Memorial. It's a nice place to walk around..
