Really great value at $75 for the omakase. Never had a cherry blossom leaf which was unique. But definitely order one or two a la carte pieces afterwards, especially the botan shrimp topped with uni
Sake is the natural choice for a sushi pairing, and Tanoshi lets diners bring their own, but if there happens to be a bottle of Champagne or sparkling wine around the house, bring it. Read more

Best value Omakase in NYC - likely in the US. Fresh and creative. The unique rice treatment is signature! Don’t miss out on the XXX or fatty tuna as an extra.
Really great omakase (chef's choice) experience. They opened a second place right next door - Tanoshi Bento - with the same menu and we reserved just an hour before. The young Korean girl is great
Prices range from $95-$99 depending on what’s on offer, but the omakase menu consistently includes akadashi miso soup, crispy fluke, ten pieces of chef-selected sushi, one half roll and one hand roll.
Tokyo-esque Omakase is a treat to have in NY. Excellent quality and variety. Prices have risen and reservation policy is harsh - I was personally burned years ago - but it's a great sushi meal.
My first omakase experience and I'm so hooked. Everything was fresh and service was amazing. My favorites were uni with quail egg, pike and crab brains. Make your reservations, you won't regret it!!
Popularly deemed the “holy grail of NY sushi” this spot is known for its authentic sushi and omakase tasting meals. We ordered the omakase meal and especially loved the branzino and scallopnigiri.
Incredible meal. The best sushi I've had in NY hands down. The restaurant only seats 10 people and has 3 settings a night so it's really a great experience and the price is great
Quaint, casual vibeomakase. They seat in waves so make sure to make a reso and pick up some sake for BYOB. Their white fish is superb and of course, get the XXX. 1 of my fav NYC sushi joints.
Intimate dining experience - only 10 seats; reserve early! Amazing omakasesushi for a great price ~$70. Each piece was melt-in-your-mouth delicious! Get the spicy scallopsashimi a-la-carte. & BYOB
Tanoshi bends traditional sushi to please contemporary tastes, but keeps its integrity with top-quality catch. Feeling lucky? Nab one of ten seats and indulge in an unforgettable omakasetasting menu.
Great addition to the neighborhood. Delicious bento box with unique sides. Can't go wrong with the chicken teriyaki or the shrimp tempora. And definitely try the salad dressing-- incredible!
Incredible sushi! The experience is authentic & will make you feel like you're dining in Tokyo! restaurant only seats ten however (bummer) & only does three seatings a night! Make your reservation!
Don't forget to BYOB. I love anything with quail eggs. You must come here if you want to celebrate a special occasion. Nice ambiance and even better food/service.
If you want sushi, this the best deal in town. It still runs you $100 for the omakase (only option) but it's one of the best sushi restaurants in town.
Only 3 seatings a night- 6,7:30,9pm. And need to put your name down starting at 2pm on the clipboard. Omakase is amazing. Also get some of the seasonal pieces like uni on botan and the crab brains.
We spent time with every bite and tried to fully appreciate the craft of our chefs. They noticed. Don't miss the art by just chowing down like you would at any old sushi joint.
Great Sushi is an art and a science. It is a blend of precise knife skills, a discerning artistic eye, and a dexterous set of hands, as well as immaculate attention to the quality of ingredients. At Tanoshi, Chef Toshio has spent decades perfecting this art, going so far as to create his own soy ...
