In a corner of the Rare Book Room, you’ll find a little hallway of bibliographies and art books. The first few shelves have bargain leathers, where you can get a book older than our country for $6.
Strand is frequented by both tourists and locals for its rare book room, deal bins, and "Strand"-branded tote bags and T-shirts. The Strand has events, from readings and classes to art shows. Read more
Outliving City Lights in my lifetime - volumes to go before one sleeps. Amazing way to spend the day from the rare book section to all stacks in all floors.
Best bookstore in Manhattan. If you want a lot of specific stuff, look the titles up on their site before to see if it's in stock & where it is. Otherwise just browse & enjoy hunting for treasure.
Christmas shopping sorted in one trip. Can’t think of a suitable book for your particular friend or loved one? Luckily this place also has the best magnets, socks, posters, coffee mugs, tote bags, etc
not my favorite bookstore in Manhattan, and sometimes it's way too crowded, but it's iconic to NY, and a definite must see if you've never been. Sometimes the dollar section is really on point too.
the best bookshop in NY - browse for hours. get lost in the stacks - reused and reduced price. $1 selects outside. new books of every topic on every table
I've been coming to this bookstore since I was a kid. I can still say this is the greatest bookstore to come to. It's an Icon for booklovers and even has the same smell of paper & ink. Stop by :)
Greatest bookstore in the world. Hyperbole aside, they have literally almost every book you might be looking for. Check out the rare book room to pour over 19th century illustrations.
Huge selection and super reasonable prices. Expect to pay maybe 10% more than Amazon. They also have a huge paperback selection where a B&N will try to push expensive hardcovers.
Don't be afraid to ask for help! With 18 miles of books, if you have a certain one in mind, it might take a while to find on your own. Plus, the staff is super friendly and helpful.
It’s like a Barnes and Noble that doesn’t want to admit it’s just a Barnes and Noble, with an absurd amount of feminist and branded gear, nevertheless an amazing selection of books.
Strand feels more like a library than a bookstore. There are so many books here. And if you're looking for souvenirs, I would recommend the book tote bags. Tons of cool designs as well.
Such an excellent book store. Amazing collections of different varieties of books. Great selections. Rare & Old books are also available, Good environment Feels very nice & calm. Worth visiting here.
New releases, old books you won't find anywhere else at a good price. It's a calm and friendly environment and the staff is very helpful. If you love books this is the place to buy them.
One of the best book stores ever! Great selection of Taschen books. Go upstairs and stare in awe at the rare book collection while huffing the wonderful old book smell. Lots of hard to find books too.
The best bookstore in the city. 4 floors with tons and tons of books from best sellers to rare unknowns. Find some gems in the $1 section and carry them home in one of their famous tote bags.
Truly the best bookstore I've ever encounter. Great price on books, lps and stationary. Warm and helpful staff and they buy used books too. I try to buy all my gifts here.
It's the best book store I've ever visited. 3 levels of all sorts of literary treasures and rarities. There's other stuff, too, but you're guaranteed to find something new to read.
This is my favourite book store ever. I wish they had one in Montreal. Or suddenly, for no reason whatsoever, moved this one here. Amazing prices and sooo many books I could spend the whole day there.
Nothing beats their selection of books, and you're always sure to discover an unexpected gem in those bookshelves. Make sure to check out the half-priced new books in the basement.
Most of the shelves are stocked with used books & if you're looking for anything brand new, press copies are downstairs. Prices = reasonable, staff are super helpful. Visit and get lost in books! 👓
I recently had the pleasure of visiting my local bookstore and I must say, it was a delightful experience. I have visited many bookstores in my lifetime, but this one stood out to me for its charm.
Goodness, the sheer number of books inside is intoxicating. Go peer at rare books on the top floor; browse the endless shelves; pick up some bargains and pick up The Strand's memorabilia. Awesome.
In the age of convenient online retail shops, there is something that cannot be matched in the experience of walking out of a great bookshop with an armful of ready to satisfy books. Read more
This is basically a day trip for anybody who loves books. There are so many genres available that I don't know where to start. It can get crowded during tourist season though.
Absolutely love this place. Really cool space, good employee favorites displays and all around awesome bookstore. Go here get guys, don't go to Barnes and noble at union sq.
As much as I value technology, I can't help but appreciate the feel of a book in my hand. I recommend that all book lovers take a break from the e-reader once in a while and revel in that experience.
We're from Portland, OR and it reminded me a lot of Powell's Books. Great place with clever, quality t-shirts, book bags, etc. Stellar selection of books. Highly recommended!
Famous bookstore with long history of selling used and new books. If I rem correctly, it used to feel more authentic as a bookstore. Now it feels like just another bookstore with lots of souvenirs.
best place to buy your moleskine notebook-- discounts on every model. strand is a gorgeous sight-- you will find mint, review copies of new and old hardcover books way under their cover price.

I would probably live in this place if it was allowable. I highly recommend checking out each floor, including the rare book room! Absolutely amazing place & fun for the entire family!
Remember too browse new books for half price at the bottom floor. Has great merchandise. Can get very hot, dry and crowded. Great selection of comics, graphic novels and arts/design books.
A great bookstore, IF you don’t have a stroller. It’s hard work to manoeuvre a stroller in a store that has book cabinets placed absolutely everywhere.
The best bookstore in the entire world. I appreciate how fresh and used books are shown side by side on the shelves, and the staff is extremely knowledgeable.
Miles of books, on every conceivable subject matter, stretching as far as the eye can see. Do take the time to go through the vintage stacks for buried literary treasures!
Everyone's experience - customer: 'this is far fetched but do you have French children's books?' - clerk: 'of course! let me show you!' - then walk to entire WALL of French children's books.
The book store with miles and miles of books is always filled with fun, friendly and interesting people. Head to the second floor's photography section and get lost in a good book.
