Hands down the best ramen in Oakland. The Ramen Shop is over priced and over crowded compared to Sobo. With the addition of a full bar, Sobo is a top 5 shop in the entire bay.
The miso broths are rich nutty and full of deep flavor, the noodles are top quality, perfect bite and well seasoned, noticeably better than most ramen joints
Good tonkotsu broth for the 510, not as good as any South Bay spots however. Kids menu is decent. Love the option to add bok choy or kale (in generous quantities), blasphemous as it may be for ramen!
Pretty good bowl of spicy black tonkotsu. The flavor is a little mild, but the pork belly is excellent. The karaage is pretty good too- small, bite-size portions.
After living in Japan, I'm a big ol ramen snob. I loved the spicy miso ramen (be prepared, it's got some legit heat). The karaage and gyoza can be skipped.
I actually didn't like it at first time, and second time I tried because I really crave for Ramen, surprised to learn that they improves lots. Try the fried stuff, soft shell crabs and fried chicken.
Sobo is a ramen restaurant in Oakland's Chinatown providing quality ramen with impeccably natural sourced ingredients. Located on the ground floor of the Pacific Renaissance Plaza, enter from the west entrance on Franklin Street.
