Another addition to Beijing's ever-expanding list of speakeasies by Jeff of Mai Bar and Malty Dog fame. The decor takes cues from 1930s. A bit out of the way but great for groups. Good cocktails.
This bookshop/coffee shop/library has a great atmosphere and often hosts talks by well known speakers. It also has a good collection of books on history & politics that are difficult to buy in the PRC
My favourite craft beer in Beijing, upgrade your fries to a litre stein and enjoy the setting in the "1949 Hidden City". Keep an eye out for seasonal beers.
Great pitstop between the Drum Tower and Houhai lake for some unsophisticated comfort food! The Mac & Cheese balls are a must. Also vegetarian-friendly (some even enjoy more than the meatballs!)
Romantic, rustic hutong setting. This Yunnan restaurant takes all the fuss out of ordering by giving a set menu (even the cheapest is more than filling). They will also cater to dietary needs/dislikes
Lets keep this simple. EAT THIS - Rice with Jasmine Flower, Spicy Mashed Potato, Yunnan Cheese, Rice Noodles in Spicy Sour Soup. Yunnan food is delicious for vegetarians and meat eaters alike!
