One of the best museums in Antwerp in a great historical building. Several texts are also in English and French, I hope there is a good multilingual guidebook available.
Probably one of my favourite Belgian museums. If you want a detailed history of the Red Star Line with a focus on the people who found a new life and home across the Atlantic, look no further.
It's a very noisymuseum but I like the concept a lot. The lookout is free and has the same opening hours as the museum. Don't forget to buy a fancy poster at the museumshop!
Did you know that Albert Einstein was among the 2 million adventurers and fortune-seekers brought from Antwerp to New York by the Red Star Line between 1873 and 1935?
It is about 20min walk from city centre and 5min walk from Mas Museum (very cool building). The museum is fascinating, very rich content. Absolutely recommended.
Here’s the story of how people took everything they had to take a chance in the land of opportunities...Their long journey is illustrated with pictures, maps, objects and real stories!
Really interesting museum, about hope and fear. The 3rd class passengers from all over Europe first had to shower for 1 hour and got desinfected to may enter the ship, you can actually smell them!
A wonderful story told about thrum migration of people. Helps you understand why refugees should also have a right to live anywhere where there is no war.
Neem je tijd. Dit museum vertelt de geschiedenis via zeer persoonlijke verhalen en op een zeer transparante en aangename manier. Ook voor kinderen heel bevatbaar. Een aanrader.
