- Murad GürmeriçMarch 7, 2017Heaven on earth for readers. Daily book readings and book signing occasions. Lots of signed books & huge selection of books. Downstairs discount section was amazing. Very well curated music section!
- Hannah LuddyAugust 16, 2016Amazing selection of books! If you've run out of things to read, this is definitely the place to discover great books. Highly recommend the author events.
- Design*SpongeAugust 3, 2014At twenty-five years old this is the grand dame of independent book stores in DC. Their selection is unmatched and the caliber of author readings beats any national chain. Read moreUpvoted Sep 6
- Dean SuhrMay 1, 2014Great little coffee/tea and bookstore a few blocks north of UDC. Will probably make a stroll back her when the weather is nicer. Nothing modern and chain like here!
- DC's best bookstore for bibliophiles. This is the shop you see so often on CSPAN Book TV. Awesome indie selection, great staff, curated book groups, very nice coffeehouse downstairs -- but not cheap.
- Aleksandra ArcipowskaJuly 5, 2017Number 1 bookstore in dC, with a cute cafe; ginger lemonade is my favourite choice!
- Michelin Travel & LifestyleAugust 14, 2012Politics & Prose caters to a well-read and politically savvy clientele. The cozy basement cafe serves coffee, drinks, sandwiches, salads and a vegan soup of the day. -- Green Guide Editor
- Theodore KimJanuary 6, 2014Not to be missed at the cafe: the homemade toast with jam. It's homemade and from Lyon bakery in D.C. It's literally the best I've ever tasted.
- The staff’s knowledge and love of their books is the best around.
- Great author talks, but also great when not crowded and you can just sit and tap away on your laptop.
- Emily BellJanuary 9, 2021Many of the author events are recorded for their podcast - tune in to Bruce Bartlett from January 2018 https://politicsprose.podbean.com/e/bruce-bartlett-live-at-politics-and-prose/
- Robinson CookAugust 14, 2016Amazing book selection and ambiance, as well as wonderful events. I ment Rick Riordan here.
- Giulia PratiJune 23, 2015My favorite local book store, try the London Fog drink at the cafe instead of a regular latte
- Tyler RoseAugust 4, 2013Such an amazing book store in DC- you must go there while in town if you haven't been before!
- Jazmin VitulloNovember 27, 2015There food is good but I'm usually there for the prize. The books!!! They always have a new book I discover.
- Frank StonehouseJuly 18, 2013Nice, but Internet is cut off during lunch time which staff said is between 11am and 3pm. I guess this frees up tables for customers buying food and not just sipping and surfing. A bit inconvenient.
- Love this place but was annoyed the cashier rang up my order for 2 books for a book event so that it cost me MORE than it would have if I had only purchased each book individually
- Michelin Travel & LifestyleAugust 2, 2011Not only is the children's section well-stocked but every spring the bookstore raises caterpillars into butterflies that the young readers help release. -- Green Guide Editor
- Absolutely love this bookstore, and they are always hosting interesting talks. The coffee is pretty decent too.
- Sunjay K.May 20, 2017They have ARCs that they give away regularly. Their author signing events are great!
- Stephanie CJuly 27, 2013Why won't they rent me space for an apartment? I don't need much room. One of the discount rooms will do, or the alcove where the travel books are. I won't bother the customers. I'll just be reading.
- afrofuturistscholarJune 25, 2011Order the Peppermint Tea and you'll get a huge cup of hot, tasty tea. Very good for an early morning walk and read!
- Sale books are downstairs! They always have a great selection. If for some reason they don't have a book they'll order it for you. :-)
- Farrar, Straus & GirouxJuly 17, 2014Meet Donald Antrim on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at 7:00 PM as he reads from his new collection of short stories, The Emerald Light in the Air.

- Angie HarmonAugust 24, 2014Perhaps the most literary bookstore in DC. Something has clearly changed here.
- SilviaMarch 10, 2013enjoy a cup of coffee at the cafe downstairs and take your eyes off the clock for a bit.
