America's oldest continuously running art museum. Lots of American art, folk art, maritime art, as well as a great poster collection, and the famous Chinese House. Rotating exhibits seasonally.
I love this place and come just to kill time sometimes. There is always something new to look at and old favorites to revisit. Plus if you're a Salem Resident or SSU student you get in free!
Excellent maritime and Asian art museum. Spring for the Huang house tour, it is excellent, and don't miss the movie about how they moved it here all the way from China. Fantastic.
Unbelievable Dutch and Flemish artexhibit - make sure to grab a magnifying glass on the way in! And the Chinese House is definitely worth the extra $5!!!
Take in over 250,000 ft of gallery space showcasing everything from contemporaryart to ancient relics. Our fave? The Yin Yu Tang House, a 19th century Chinese home relocated right inside the museum!
With the best gift shop around, the PEM offers live entertainment, films, interactive family tours & many opportunities to be creative. Free to Salem residents...almost worth moving to Salem for!
The Museum's Holiday Hours for 2011 are Tues-Sun 10-5 and Monday Dec 26th, 2011 10-5. The Museum will close at 2pm on December 24th and the museum is closed on Christmas Day and New Years Day.
I really enjoyed "Fiery Pool: the Maya and the Mythic Sea." Well layed-out, interactive, and informative exhibit with interesting artifacts - a visual treat! Read more
